      -turned in papers Feb 13, 2022. Was told they’d be worked on that week. I confirmed that it was OK that I gave a pile of paper receipts and he said no problem it would give his father something to do so he’d sort them. I asked a handful of times to make sure because I had no problem going through the receipts myself and totaling them up.
      -Paid $595 invoice when I picked up my files on March 30, 2022. They were not filed.
      -The business committed to provide me w/ accurate filing of my federal, state, and city taxes for our personal and my business.
      -I emailed **** on Feb 14 several times, also sent messages in the online portal. He showed me in person how “easy the portal was to use” and how when I sent a message on there it notified him right away. I got ZERO responses from email. I received 2 total messages in the portal 1 about my mileage and 1 with the numbers he came up with which were not accurate. He didn't answer a single question I had asked.
      -From the span of March 5, 2023 to March 30, 2023 I called almost every day & only actually reached a human being twice. Both times that someone actually answered it was the secretary & she was not helpful. Her response was snarky & that “he was working on it” … & she’d never transfer the call to ****.
      -The ONLY email I received was never in response to any of my questions. It was an automated email that said my files had been moved to processing. I never approved them to be processed. I knew I immediately had to go pick up my papers & cut my losses. I decided to just write a check & pay the invoice even though services were never completed, then email **** one last time. I’m not sure why I had a glimmer of hope he’d be a decent human and actually reply, which he hasn’t. I explained how I paid the invoice but do not think it’s right for him to cash the check & I said if he came up w/ another # of what I’d owe for his time attempting to work on it, I’d take the check I left & write another one in the proper amount.

      I’m writing in response to the complaint ID in the subject

       

      As you can imagine, an accounting firm has a very high volume of customers this time of year. When the client left her documents, along with a large number of receipts, it was explained that it would take some time to add up the receipts. For some reason, we our portal was not alerting us to a large number of messages and emails, and I worked on the receipts as I had time to do so.  One of our team members lost a parent during this time, and understandably needed to miss several days over a two-week period, putting us farther behind.  The client asked why they owed as much money as they did, and I explained to them that their income was up significantly from the year before.  Before I was able to look things over again the following day, the client came in to collect her things. The client’s check was returned via ****, as we do not accept payment if we are not expected to finalize things. I do not wish to be paid for the time spent working on the returns.

       

      We have worked at correcting our portal, as this is our first busy season using it, and there have been some growing pains with it. I also did not receive the email that was referenced in the complaint regarding her payment. I returned it as a courtesy to the former client in hopes it would help to remedy the situation
