I am writing to file a formal complaint against the Jefferson County Humane Society for engaging in unethical practices.
A recent incident has brought to light that the organization has allowed its board members to have preferential treatment by basically stealing animals from fosters and potential adopters, undermining the integrity of the adoption process.

The short version of the story is that I was given the green light to adopt and then two days later I was no longer able to adopt the dog because a BOARD MEMBER (she stated this multiple times during our call) of the humane society wanted her. I asked her why this specific dog and her words exactly were “I don’t know, I honestly don’t think she’s ever even met her”. I was completely devastated and felt very singled out. I had told my children she would be staying with us.

The Jefferson County Humane Society seems to allow preferential treatment to their board members and do not care about those who foster for them who take in these animals and invite them into their homes with literally nothing to gain. It is a completely disgusting practice and needs to be called out.

We held out hope that we would still be able to get her, until now. I wanted to give it a few days but at this point, we know we will not be seeing her again, and our hearts are broken. While I hope that she is in a good, loving home, I know she would of been so much happier here and we are still very much disappointed with the humane society and their practice of policy and the complete abandonment of providing positive resolutions for people that they rely on to take in these animals to make more space in their facility.

I urge the you to investigate these allegations thoroughly and take appropriate action to address this misconduct. The well-being of the animals and the public trust in animal welfare organizations must be protected at all costs.
