On 6/19/25, I took my car in to have a bolt removed from my tire and the tire patched. I knew before going in that I needed new tires. I have been pricing them. They are 21" low profile high performance tires so I dont just buy them anywhere. They called me after I had dropped it off to tell me I needed new tires and asked if I wanted to buy them from them. I said no, please just fix the bolt. They called me back 30 minutes later and started mansplaining to me all about tires and low pressure and bead locks, etc. They asked me when the bolt happened and how long I had been driving around with low tire pressure and told me that hurts the integrity of the tire. I told them I noticed the bolt the day it happened, last Friday, and that I never had low tire pressure. They then told me because of my negligence of driving it with low tire pressure which I did not do---the tire never lost any air) their tech blew out the sidewall of the tire. I will also mention the bolt is in the middle of the tire. My husband worked at a tire shop for years, and I asked him to talk to the techs since they were treating me like an uneducated female that didn't know anything about cars. He went up there and they were rude to him, put my spare tire on my car and told him to leave. I met him up there and got the keys from him. While we were outside on the corner of the property discussing driving home on the spare tire my husband watched them put on incorrectly, the manager came out and started harassing and antagonizing us. I went in to the shop with 4 drivable tires and left with 3. They need to replace the tire they broke!!!!!!!

More Information...I’ve purchased a few sets of tires from Detroit Tire and have always had a pleasant experience. I learned last week that Detroit Tire is a full service mechanic, too. Today, for the first time, I brought my car to Detroit Tire for services other than a patch job or new tires—to get an oil change, resolve a minor oil leak, and get some filters changed. As always, service was quick and cost effective. When I tried to pick up my car, unfortunately, the gentlemen at the front desk were busy with a very disgruntled customer (to put it mildly). Because that customer's wife just wrote a negative review, I am providing a positive review and hoping to provide another side to the story as I observed it. I was able to witness the exchange between the manager and disgruntled customer.

Based on their exchange, apparently the disgruntled customer came to Detroit Tire because he had a tire that was not holding air; the customer wanted the tire to be patched. Because the customer himself was at work, Detroit Tire called the customer’s wife to recommend a tire replacement instead of a patch. Detroit Tire explained that the tire was not in good enough shape for a patch job to be successful, but the customer’s wife insisted on a patch job. The mechanics insisted that the tire needed replaced—the tire in question was not a good candidate for a patch job. However, Detroit Tire agreed to attempt the patch, making it clear that it may not be successful. Indeed, the patch job was not successful.

I witnessed the disgruntled customer accuse Detroit Tire of placing a hole in the tire and making his car un-driveable, even though the tire was already a faulty tire. With impolite words and actions, the disgruntled customer strongly insisted on being given a free tire because “Detroit Tire ruined my tire.” Obviously the customer had already come to Detroit Tire because they had a tire that would not hold air. I think it is pertinent to point out that Detroit Tire has patched tires for me twice in the past, and has performed patches on my family’s vehicles as well, so they are clearly willing to do patch jobs when the situation warrants. I don’t believe Detroit Tire intentionally put a hole in the customer’s tire just to make a sale, as the disgruntled customer insinuated.

I was deeply impressed by the kindness, professionalism, and poise of the gentlemen and manager at the front desk. Even though the customer cursed at them and threatened poor reviews and grew increasingly agitated and rude, the manager calmly explained the situation and asked to converse as civil human beings. When the customer started using foul language, the manager requested that the customer step outside until he could achieve a level of calm, because the language used was discourteous to the people in the waiting room. The manager also genuinely seemed to care about the customer and asked if the customer was just having a bad day. Ultimately, after many accusations and heated words from the disgruntled customer, Detroit Tire offered to put a spare tire on the customer’s car. When I had the opportunity to check out, the gentlemen at the front desk apologized profusely for the experience I had while waiting and even discounted my bill by $25 “because you just had to listen to such foul language and rude talk while you waited.” I have rarely witnessed such kind, calm, gracious, poised, and professional customer service in response to such aggression and rudeness. Detroit Tire may have lost a difficult/unrealistic customer, but they actually gained a grateful and impressed customer in me. Well done, gentlemen!

I BELIEVE THE ABOVE GOOGLE REVIEW FROM BARLEY FIELD TELLS YOU WHAT HAPPENED . WE TOLD THEM IN THE BEGGINGING THE TIRE WAS NOT REPAIRABLE AND THAT ALL THE TIRES WERE ALL WORE OUT AT 2/32 THAT IS WORE OUT . WE OFFERED TO INSTALL A USED TIRE IF THEY COULD FIND ONE .

I am rejecting this response because:

I don't know who Detroit Tire paid to write the response review to my complaint, but it is completely wrong.  I, the wife, took my car into Detroit Tire because I had a nail in my tire.  I wanted it patched.  I did not lose any air with the nail in my tire.  It was in my tire for at least a week before I took it to Detroit Tire, and again, my tire never went flat, and never lost more than 3 psi of air pressure.  I took my vehicle in and asked for the nail to be removed, the tire patched, and a tire rotation.  Detroit Tire called me and let me know that I needed four new tires.  I already knew this, and I do not disagree with this assessment.  They recommended that I not do the tire rotation as this would not be cost effective.  They said they would only recommend the patch.  The never, not once, absolutely did not, tell me that the tire should not be patched or that they did not recommend it.  If they had not recommended it, I would have gone and picked up my vehicle.  No biggie.  Again, my tire was not losing air, it was not going flat, I just did not want the nail in it in case it came out while I was driving because then the tire would most likely go flat.  About 30 minutes later they called me back.  They said because I had ran the tire low on air, I damaged the integrity of the tire, and it "blew" because of the tire being flat.  My tire NEVER went flat EVER!! As soon as I noticed the nail, I had my tire pressure indicator on constantly in my vehicle so I could monitor it which is how I know it never went low or flat.  At this point, I was very upset and frustrated so I asked my husband to help me because I felt Detroit Tire was trying to take advantage of me.  When I drove up to the shop to pick up my vehicle, the manager came out of the store and verbally harassed myself, my husband and my son, who had driven me up there, and tried to engage him in a fight.  If he was so kind and courteous as the other reviewer stated, he would have never came out into the parking lot to antagonize an already upset and frustrated family.  He didn't offer any apologies.  He told me I was a liar about my tire (said we could agree to disagree) and tried to engage my husband in a fight.  I will attach the video of us leaving and him trying to make my husband stay and fight him.  (He says why are you driving away?  There's no cameras.  Stay and fight.  We have lawyers.)

      Sincerely,

Detroit tire let it be known to the young lady that the tire was not repairable , should not be repaired  and that the tires were pass 2/32 of wear and needed replaced we were also told that they had been putting air in the tire before the trip out of town and just needed it repaired for the time being . Detroit tire was trying to be helpful and get them  back on the road . Upon getting the tire off the wheel the side wall had been compromised by being ran flat or low on air causing the side wall to be weak , the tire machine spoon that pushes the tire in to release it from the rim went through the sidewall and made a hole . Detroit tire did offer to sell them a set of tires at a good price . The ladies husband came into the showroom very abruptly letting everyone sitting in the waiting area know that he has his own tire equipment at his house and that he has 18 years experience and that has never happened . he then went on yelling demanding we give him a new tire ( his was officially wore out and not road worthy ), we told him if he found a used one we would put it on for him at no charge . he then went on to make a *** of himself and told the general manager that he would fight him anytime and that the general manager was a ***** .

I took my car in for an inspection. They quoted me on the price and I asked them not to work on my vehicle. They worked on my vehicle anyway and charge my grandmother’s credit. When I picked up my vehicle, it was smoking and leaking fluid. This is not consistent with the issue I had when I dropped off my car. The business said that there is no way that my car is smoking or leaking fluid in that I am lying.

I had all 4 tires replaced with an alignment. Only driven 20,000 miles and while getting my oil changed the dealership told me my alignment wasn’t done correctly, and I need all brand new tires! These are $1500 tires with barely any wear and tear. The entire outside portion of the tires are completely bald! So I called into the Detroit tire and an employee named *** was extremely rude and told me 20,000 miles is a lot of miles. That’s absolutely not true when you buy nice tires for a 2021 vehicle. He then proceeded to tell me he didn’t care how I was feeling about the tires and hung up on me. I called back and spoke to a ***. He was a little more respectful however he also refused to take any blame on the alignment. Now I’m stuck with paying for an entire new set of tires because they dont know how to do their job when it comes to doing an alignment. Followed up with complete and utter disrespect to a customer! This has been a horrible experience and they refused to let me speak to a manager!

My name is ***** ****** I am the manager at Detroit Tire Sales. I did not talk to this person when he called in, but was told about it from *** and ****. I was told that when he called in he was very rude ad using the F word about every other time.

The only thing I can tell you is that yes he did buy 4 tires from us on 5-18-22 but at that time there was no alignment needed. We did check the alignment but it was in spec. (See attached).

We give free rotation when you buy a set of 4 tires. We tell the customer that several times before they leave. By the history you can see he has never been in for rotation. This is one of the reasons we do free rotation so we can catch problems like this.

      Thank you. ***** ******

      P.S. See attached letters from *** & ****.

I am rejecting this response because: once again this is an absolute lie! If you dont expect customers to be mad when they get hung up on when calling in after a $1200 bill that you took advantage of someone! Absolutely terrible customer service and your response is showing that you don’t care about your customers only care about taking advantage of people! & if that’s your official response I would think your business will suffer itself and eventually go out of business! You need to learn to respect customers who spend thousands of dollars with you & quit taking them for granted! You change tires daily but most people do it once every 4-5 years. I would suggest remedial training to your front desk personnel and maybe even for yourself to be inclusive to everyone.

      Sincerely,
