I purchased the IDShield family plan. A part of the plan that is promised, and listed in my ***************, is supposed to be a VPN, password manager, and malware protection. I have reached out five times, between emails and phone calls, to get the serial number that is necessary to activate all of these services. Not only is this frustrating that I am not receiving services I am paying for, I wonder how many other people have signed up for ID Shield and think that they have this protection but do not realize that it is not a passive process. It feels like a scam. Or at the very least, dishonest about what membership includes.Business Response

Good day I have been with the legal shield, operating in OK, for over 15 years I have paid well over $3500 in membership fees to belong to this insurance company. It was called prepaid legal service when I signed up for it My wife had a legal issue, that their attorney and law office failed to resolve and in fact because of their incompetence, my wife can no longer drive. Legal shield in OK refused to help, in fact they canceled our service as well and the refused to honor their contract with regards to helping my wife and I with a legal issue. Legal shield, and their attorneys, kivil and Howard in Oregon both claim they welcome any issues or problems, a client may have. Our issue is three fold
* Their attorney did not show up at the *** hearing prepared, as he did not insure all documents were present. Documents he had, as I sent them to him, and ***. I did everything of the work that he directed ME to execute, not my wife *****
* My wife was denied her driving privileges because of this missing document. Unprofessional and incompetent legal work
* When we called their office as my wife and myself were on the call to find out why this had happened and what can be done they refused to speak with both if us. During that call they refused to speak with my wife with myself present. My wife explained that she freely and willing extended permission for both of us to be on the call at the same time, yet they refused
If there is a HIPAA statute they are trying to follow it is certainly understood. However with that said, they certainly did not have an issue speaking with me privately on this legal matter for my wife. In addition they did not deliver the service pledged and a full refund is not only deserved, but expected,
Im sure the hefty fine from HIPAA violations is significantly less than the $3500 I request. Thank you

I am rejecting this response because:First and foremost the referred attorney made it very clear the *** issue we had, was certainly NOT what he does, and has not dealt with traffic law for some time. His law office specializes in divorce law, not traffic.
There IS no wait from ***. The *** specifically indicated the reason for denial of extending back driving privileges was the document signed by my wifes doctor indicating she was ok to drive, was not present at the hearing. A fatal mistake of incompetence, as it cost my wife great distress and emotional harm. This was the key reason for denial. They said it in their final hearing letter. When I called ***, they also confirmed this fact on the phone
***************************, the law office that is empowered by Legal Shield, freely and willingly discussed my wifes case with me over the phone, as did their lawyer. In fact, *************************** not only spoke with me on this case, they accepted this issue I presented on my wifes behalf and also accepted ALL the documents regarding this legal matter and reviewed this with me, and then have me a Case #, not my wife

In addition, when my wife says on the phone she would be more comfortable speaking to *************************** with her husband present, and they still deny to do this because of HIPAA, then it would be *************************** that has broken this level of professional conduct already. For that matter, I have since discovered that it is not uncommon for a wife to ask for her husband to be present discussing her case, or **** verse. *************************** along with legal shield are now just trying to cover their tracks and hope I go away
I expect a full refund of $3500. A very reasonable request for what happened to my wife. Especially when you discover HIPAA is $15,000 a page! Thank you

My spouse and I are in the process of adopting a child from another state. We have been trying to use the plan since adoption is a covered area of my plan. There is only one law firm in Georgia that works with Legal Shield and they have been working through this for a month now (case # is GA-6WV-***** This law firm determined they couldn't handle the case internally since they do not have experience with ICPC so they decided to refer it out. They sent us to one lawyer who does not practice interstate adoption and only does adoptions within *******, after that one did not work they have been working on another one but the lawyer they were contacting also does not practice interstate adoption and only covers adoptions within Georgia. They seem to not be capable of finding an attorney or able to communicate the information we have already given them to the attorney, we also provided them with a list of attorneys and retainer agreements (with estimated costs) which they seem to have disregarded. We need to find an attorney so we can move forward since adoption is very obviously a time sensitive matter.Initial Complaint

I have been blocked from receiving services from this company. I have been posting many complaints regarding the inappropriateness and refusal to abide by their policy regarding providing different aspects of customer service, complaint resolution ********************, and improper delivery of those services I purchased. At one moment in my relationship with the company providing those services, I could not make a scheduled payment, discussed the parameters behind the reason, and when able to reestablish payments, I was denied to do so. The company did not provide their citation behind their decision not to reestablish services with them after they disclosed that it is their policy that they will provide all reasonings behind their decision within an email. I demanded that they send this email disclosing this decision multiple times with direct refusals to do so.I have spoken copiously with the complaints departments of both LegalShield and also the complaint department of my program attorney's office. There were many aspects regarding poor customer service and provision of poor delivery of services I was contracted to receive. If all emails and phone calls are recorded, they will produce record of the few complaints I have been brining forward which were not resolved, or that were claimed to be in working procedure for resolution.Commentary regarding the rendering of paid services and the ways I can request those services to be provided better and more effectively, which were in policy describes their enabelnce to do so, has not been a matter or consistent knowledge between service providers, thus, no resolutions for improving the delivery of those services have been brought to fruition. The services I paid for were decomposing in quality, also there were abusive moments regarding my status as a recipient of services from both the professional, and nonprofessional components of the company and program attorney's office.more can be disclosed in future discussion.Business Response

I've been a member of Pre-paid legal/Legal Shield, since 2009. My member # is ***********. I discovered in Sept, 2022 from an unrelated webinar training session and a legal article, that a case I opened (Nov. 2011) with ***************************** (PS), the Law firm secured by Legal Shield, to provide legal services and advice to its members, had possibly provided me with incorrect advice/information that I relied upon to my detriment. This ultimately cost me tens of thousands of dollars. ***************************** assigned case number # ***-6554, and my records indicate that the attorney I spoke with was ******************* who told me attorney fees incurred from my rental property could not be deducted from my income tax returns?? I sent a couple of emails to Pre-paid Legal/Legal Shield to intercede but got no response. I then contacted PS to verify and cross reference my recollection, I was told the case file was missing and it would have to be re-created. I later spoke with a different attorney at PS who told me he could only tell me that the Statute of Limitation had expired for me to amend my 2012 returns. It appears you rely on the attorneys advice at your own risk with no recourse for bad advice! This fact was never disclosed to me by Pre-paid legal or PS! Still trying to get help, I mailed a letter directly to ***********************, EVP in which I received a call from ***************************, in customer service who suggested I do the research and confirm that the attorney's advice in case # ***-6554 was incorrect? Based on three or four sources, I believe the advice was incorrect and it cost me tens of thousands of dollars. I'm seeking a refund of some of my member dues as it's not fair for me to pay for bad advice. Legal Shield purports high standards on its website, the bill of rights and the code of conduct. Plus, states in its member guide booklet "we've selected some of the finest law firms throughout North America to serve our members." Complaint: ********I am rejecting this response because: Pre-paid Legal/Legal Shield has not or will not release to me the basis for their position or any proof that the legal advice provided at the time was correct? Where's the proof and based on what proof, from the Legal provider or Pre-paid Legal? This is part of the compliant that Pre-Paid Legal/Legal Shield's response to the dispute lacked the effort needed to resolve this matter with the legal provider. Pre-paid Legal made no attempt to get to the root of the problem with the Legal provider. Pre-Paid claim to select the best and most qualified Legal provider for the benefit of its members implying that the information provided can be relied upon. Instead, when I presented this problem to Pre-paid Legal, they could only tell me that I should do the research (incur the expense) to determine if the advice was incorrect. I did do the research, but it seems a simple ask to have the legal provider address the issue and provide the proof or on what basis the advice was given? Hence, the crux of the complaint is not just the legal advice but should Prepaid legal/Legal shield assist in resolving this dispute and issuing me a full refund and making it clear to its members that "any legal advice is accepted at your own risk." Can Pre-paid Legal provide the proof that the legal advice given at the time was correct? Do you have an IRS publication or case law, etc? If the proof is satisfactory, I will gladly consider this matter resolved!

I am rejecting this response because: this business has violated its own "members bill of rights" and "code of ethics" by not fully informing its members that any advice or legal consultation you receive is at your own risk. Even if you think this is a reasonable expectation on the part of the member, this disclaimer should be expressly stated where it is seen and understood. Legal Shield and Prepaid Legal even state as one of their code of ethics "is to provide clear and accurate information about LegalShield services, respond to questions with timely and truthful answers, and avoid any misleading or deceptive representations." By not clearly stating that the advice you receive from the Legal provider is at your own risk, and you most likely have no resource against wrongful acts or inaccurate advice. Because Legal Shield has failed to issue and include a strong "Disclaimer" in their advertisement, this not only caused me harm but can also cause irreparable harm to the general public! I wish to publish my complaint because everything I've stated is true. Thank you

My sister and I have paid Legal shield over $44 a month for seven months, thinking they would be able to help us with representation when the time came. When the time finally came, they dismissed us completely. Legal Shield advised us to be aggressive on this case because it was time sensitive, and said that it shouldn't cost more than $2500 for an attorney through them. They finally referred us to a lawyer--who we left messages with for weeks. When this referred lawyer finally got back to us, he sounded like he was suffering from a hangover (extremely unprofessional and not completely cognoscente) and quoted us a price of $4500-- twice the price that legal shield said to expect. That lawyer then emailed someone else's "dog breeding" contract for US sign! Our case is a landlord tenant case, nothing to do with dogs. When calling legal shield to get a different referral and voice our concerns, the lawyer from legal shield was extremely insulting and accused me of being impatient and just not having enough money to hire a lawyer, despite what was told to us on both the price and the time sensitivity of the case. The Legal Shield representative lawyer also said that it was unlikely that we would get another referral and treated me like I didn't know what I was talking about and that $4500 was not much of a difference from $2500. He treated me like my concerns with the reference they gave me were not validated in any way. I tried many times to contact the company after to see if they would resolve this, they claim they have tried to call me-- but they have not, I don't think they even dialed my phone number in correctly. Someone from Legal Shield finally did contact me and unofficially mentioned another lawyer I could try-- when I did, that reference said they did not take landlord tenant cases and would not help. I have since canceled their "services." Legal shield has not attempted to help me or resolve this matter in any way and in short, I have been scammed.Business Response

I accidentally noticed today that the Legal Shield was charging me twice per month: first time on the 5th day of each month and the second time of the 6th. I have never opened two different accounts. When I called them today, I had ***** as a representative. She was very rude and refused to help me. For example, she refuse to spell their email address when I asked her for a favour to spell it. Her speech was not clear enough and I experienced difficulties to understand her. Then she became very defensive and angry at me. When I asked her name she refused to provide the one. Likely, she introduced herself at the beginning of the call and I memorised it. If was at 4:39 pm ******* time. She seemed to be in a very great hurry that she hang the phone very quickly without letting to finish my talk to her. She was so disrespectful, rude and snobbish. As a result of our mindless and useless conversation, I realized that I have to write an email only and there is no managers exist at the Legal SHield at all or no other human beings that I could talk to. The most important part is : they have been charging me for two accounts and they are not about to return my money to me. Furthermore, they assigned me to a lawyer from BC who had not idea about rules and regulations in *******. That women was always forgetful about the time and different time zones and once she called at 9 pm! That was absolutely useless. I am seeking: 1 - cancellation of all my account they created . 2. My name is ******************************************** (**********************************************************). I am writing this letter, deeply concerned and upset with how the Legal-shield Corp and their service members have allowed themselves to be placed in a position to take advantage of myself and likely many other unexpected customers. I was a member of their services from 2004-2009 (Member#*********** ). I also purchased their Identity Protection Package Member#***********. During that time I canceled all my services by phone with a representative, which was successful. The reason I canceled, was because I felt during that time I received no basic ethics, issues involving hypocrisy, rare forms of extortion, and no regards to protecting the interests of their members/clients. I was just informed on 2/3/23 that We the members who want to cancel, must cancel only by email. This is what they are telling me now, after I asked for my full refund. I canceled my service with them verbally in the early part of May 2021. I informed their representative that Legal-shield was still swiping my credit card for renewal, without my consent after reviewing my statement. I explained to a representative that my card was swiped in December of 2021; and they also swiped it again December 2022, after I had canceled my services in May 2021. I became sick in 2021 during the pandemic and also in 2022. During that time I needed help with my bills, so I was unable to review my statements carefully. When I checked my January statement (2023), after seeing a charge on my ********* card for $299.40 from Legal-shield I discovered what they were doing and I was and still am furious! This is their error not mine! Now I am being told that because I&#**;m asking for my money back, for 2021 & 2022 , that there is only one way to cancel and that is by email only. I was informed by ********************** that I should have never spoke to an agent or a representative to cancel my membership. Well I spoke with a ********************** agent and representative over the phone to join **********************, and they took my credit card over phone 3 times and I also canceled my prior memberships 2 times by phone. This is just another sneaky way of ********************** locking members in, making it more time consuming and difficult for those customers who may not be tech-savvy to cancel. You took advantage of me by not being explicit and by being sneaky with this charge. Now what if my credit card would have closed in 2021? How would they have handled this? When I joined them once again in June 2020 they made the initial money off of me, but I never used their services. There is protection under the law for me as well. I have rules set in place to protect my money. It does not make sense why I am being put in this position. At the time I canceled, the representative explained that I would be covered until my expiration date. Because I had paid back in December 2020. If they check their records they will see I have not used their services, OR their "perks". I had to find myself a lawyer, I can provide proof of the 2 lawyers that I hired in 2021 and 2022. When I joined ********************** once again on 12/2020 Member#************ I was informed that ********************** services had improved.I complained about the ******************** service and how the attorneys showed zero interest in what I had to say as the client, who is calling just for general information or ******************** advice. I was not happy with their response time or nonchalant attitudes. As I stated, some members get lucky but others get treated poorly. I am asking for help to get my money back and I am canceling my service once again for 2021 & 2022. **********************, do NOT swipe my credit card, and I want my full refund for 2021 and 2022. I am asking the above government agents for their assistance in this situation. Your time and investigation will be greatly appreciated and I will provide you with all with information that is needed for resolution. I am guilty of not reviewing my statements in 2021 because I would have addressed this IMMEDIATELY! $299.40 was the amount they swiped on my credit card without my authorization. This is not the proper way to treat customers. (Bad business Practice.) The person who wrote the letter is being dishonest. I never received any correspondence from legalshield informing me that my credit card was going to be swiped Not in 2021 nor in 2022 nor did they tell me how to cancel my services if needed. when I spoke with the Representative in ******************************** fully with the Necessary tools and assured that my service get cancel. I was Introduce to a Member specialist *************************** at corporate office. Why was I not entitled to the same service from the Representative in 2021? Maybe because of Race? Or I was not taken Seriously? I don't know why she treated me with such scant courtesy. Legalshield is responsible for all entities, that is attached to legalshield members services. agents, representatives legalshield should not be allowed to detach themselves When their members do not receive the proper customer service from in or out house services of legalshield. the corporate office is fully responsible for quality assurance.BBB your service is greatly appreciated.
