After inviting general contractors to bid on a home remodeling project Sager Contracting along with five others rose to the top. Double checking references we sat down with Charley ***** and discussed the project. We asked for a quote and reviewed it against others. We contracted with Sager Contracting for a 90day project, with 100% attention (no splitting time with another job - guaranteed by Mr. *****), payments would be in thirds. Check #1 written 03/08/2022, start project 04/18/2022 and complete project 07/18/2022. In September 2022 I had a discussion with Charley about too slow a work rate and he revealed that he was busy working some 1500 other accounts. We amended the contract to extend him a partial payment from the third payment because he mismanaged the financials. The issue of substantiality was at hand. In December 2022 I handed him what I thought was a final punch list only to hand him another on May 25th, 2023 - the day before his guaranteed completion date, May 26th, 2023. The amendment included a $200.00 a day penalty clause. Signed and notarized. That date has come and gone and since then he has shown up 3 times in the last thirty-five days. That's $7,000.00 in the penalties. Four hundred and thirty-eight days later (438), job is still not complete, and we have seen an employee but 5 times in the last 52 days. Sager has boggled this project from the beginning, with nothing but excuses about embargos, Covid, issues in his personal life - that are no concern of mine and are irrelevant to our business arrangement. Blames his subs. Has a record of "No Show, no call, maybe text". He is unprofessional. He alleged to have fallen off our roof while not wearing a harness. There was no witness to this event. The Oklahoma Attorney Generals Consumer Protection Task Unit is ineffectual and nothing more than recording unit, they offer no enforcement. In Oklahoma General Construction Contractors are not required to have any licensing. Beware of Sager Contracting.

To be fair the construction industry is very different since originally taking on this project…after Covid and a Covid resurgence which has and is still affecting the industry.. by means labor shortages and extreme inflation caused by lack of supply.. There is no reason other than the amount of time we’ve been working on this project for homeowners to be unhappy .. the homeowner and his wife are really good people and we have been attempting to do right by them and have not abandoned the project even at our expense. Sager contracting has went as far as doing extreme amounts of requested detail and re work painting, staining and special design patterns requested by owner that were never originally part of scope detail. After beginning projects homeowner self admittedly said he had an issue with obsessive compulsive disorder which he may be unaware it has bled over into our work thus causing delays and wasting of man hours. Time also would be wasted when homeowner would converse with workers on site unrelated to project at hand which would halt work and not even be work related. We do intend to see project through for them and am sure that they will be happy with the end result.
