On May 11, 2024, I called Pafford EMS due to dizziness and the inability to drive safely. They determined that it wasn't a medical emergency, so ******** won't cover it. Now, I owe them $858. which is half because I pay a monthly fee to my utility company. I had recently stopped taking my high blood pressure medication without my doctor's knowledge, so I had been monitoring my blood pressure at home. My diastolic had been consistently down in the 50s. That night, I was very dizzy and worried about it, so I called EMS. In fact, I got very dizzy just a couple of weeks ago, and thought I was going to faint in the grocery store parking lot. *** took my blood pressure in the ambulance and my diastolic was in the 80s. However, on May 7, it was 112/48. On May 9, it was 105/49. On May 10 it was 125/68. *** said my blood pressure kit wasn't working right, so I got a new highly accurate Oxiline. I have a record of my readings saved in the memory, and it still at times shows my diastolic is in the 50s. My blood pressure fluctuates a great deal. Today it's 140/78. I don't what I should do if this happens again. I certainly won't call for an ambulance. I guess I'll have to take my chances and drive dizzy to urgent care.

      Customer Answer

I would like to add that EMS knew money was an issue. I told them I didn't want to go to the hospital unless I was sure that the City of ***** was paying for it. I gave them a copy of the utility bill. They said the monthly fee was on there. When I got in the ambulance, they said nothing was wrong with my blood pressure and asked me if I still wanted to go. I said yes. Never did the say they were going to code it as a non-emergency! My sister took that same ambulance service from this same address twice. She was never billed. I had no clue how it worked. I assumed that I wouldn't be billed for the remaining balance either. I will notify the local police and my auto insurance company to tell them that I will be driving dizzy to urgent care from now on because I can't afford an ambulance. I can't afford to fall either. I have osteoporosis.
