The water district hired a contractor company to install fire hydrants near my property. During work the contractor had hit my personal water line after the water meter. The company had repaired the area they had hit but did not inspect down the trench line approximately 100 yards from the break it had pulled my line apart. The water district is not holding the contractor responsible for the leak or my labor when i had to repair the line and are having me contact the contractor for payment. I did not hire the contractor and should not be the one holding the contractor responsible for damages or payment. I am not sure how to proceed the water district office manager has only given me the option of going to a board meeting, this seems very wrong.

The water district values our customers very much. We are also fair and reasonable. To state some of the facts, the water district did hire a contractor for a waterline relocation project because of an ************************************* (ODOT) road widening project. The contractor did in fact damage our customers private ************************** in April and repaired the water line quickly. The customer said additional damage occurred down the trench. The water district was never contacted to document the additional damages in April. Never the less, the customer is not acknowledging or taking responsibility for the water leak they had on their private line and water usage prior to March 31, 2025. The customer had already repaired and replaced the leak and waterline before the contractor was working close to the customers private ********************** line, which accounts for $1,833.30 of the $2,200.00 claimed, documented by meter readings, dates and usages. The water districts project engineer and office manager have both explained this information and more to the customer in detail. We do not deny that the contractor owes our customer for some damages. Before the project completion, the Board reserves the right to hold the contractor responsible for damages should they not resolve the issue satisfactorily with the customer.
