I was at the store today to purchase a portable battery charger. I met a guy at the counter named Braxton (not sure if the spelling is accurate) who was to attend to me. After entering the number so I could pay, he asked that I should fill out some information which I believed the store should already have in their system since I was not in auto zone for the first time. He then entered another number and found the name. The name on the account is that of my wife and this rep read out the name and laughed. I asked him what he was laughing at with my wife's name on the screen and he ignored my question, continued laughing, now smiling and continued ignoring me. I next spoke out and requested for another rep so I can make my payment. A lady named Tenant ****** (with the title manager) came over and asked what the issue was. I informed her and rather than ask that the rep stop attending as I requested because of his actions, she said he will attend to me while she supervises him. I said no and that he laughed at my wife's name (an African name) when he pronounced it and that to avoid any further conflict, it was better she attended to me. Ms. ****** said its either that or I get out of the store.
I explained to her that I was just disrespected due to my nationality which is discriminatory but all I am asking is to be attended to by someone else so I can go about my business. She told other members of her team to get me out and she opened the door. I informed her that an act of racism occurred and the best she could do was tell me to leave without correcting the issue. I left but took the name of the store leaders which unfortunately she is one of.
If such a discriminating act was done and a leader felt it was better the customer left than she attend to him, then such a person is not worth the position of leadership. This deserves nothing but zero stars and the need for people of color to avoid the store so one does not act stupid once they start acting racist.
