    Our sink was not draining well and a connection had come loose above the trap. We called them to have them snake the drain because we really didn't want to. They said there was a minimum charge of $99 to come out to take a look. They would then be able to say what it would cost. The technician was very nice and respectful, but the estimates were unbelievable. Just to snake the drain (with no cleanout) would cost $745. To snake it (with no cleanout) and reset the pipe would be $1629. The "Best" option was to snake the drain (with no cleanout) and replace the pipes under the sink with Kitchen Schedule 40 pipes for a mere $1789. I asked the tech how long it would take just to snake the drain. He hemmed and hawed and said, "it depends." When I pressed him, he said, "about an hour." Really? No parts, just snake the drain... and I should pay $750 for an hour's work?!?!?!? I said "No, thank you" and paid him his $99 fee. But I refused to sign the document that said their work was well done. He did not do any work. Why would I say his work was well done?I don't know how they have been able to ****** the good ratings they have. Maybe they saw my grey hair and decided to take me for a ride, or they really didn't want the job and figured they'd give some outrageous estimate to make it "worth their while." Oh... it was the Friday before Thanksgiving, so maybe they figured they had me over a barrel. No matter why, charging $750 to snake a drain is just unethical.
