St. Charles completely surprised us by being served paperwork from a debt collector for $1,070.54 on a bill that was shown as being completely paid for from the birth of our child. I tried calling their billing department twice to resolve, but they said it was too late as its been sent to collections. They told us we should of received multiple communications in their online portal system, phone calls and 1 letter. But we searched through the portal inbox, it did not show any messages, we did not receive any phone calls, and no letter. I asked they provide me a record of their communication and was told they cant provide that. I also did a full audit of the payments we made to this bill. we were on an autopay program, that for some reason stopped, and there was 1 final bill showing, so we made the payment that was shown to close it out. The St. Charles rep explained to me that this was good news, since it was sent to collections, that our bill it caught up (really?). Also the final bill they sent was was wrong. We did have an outstanding balance of $672.53 remining, and if the bill was correct, or if they actually told us the mistake before sending to the collection agency. I would have happily paid it. After brining them up to them, they told me there is nothing we can do since it was sent to collections. too bad they are the only hospital in town, but do not trust their billing department, and audit everything. unfortunately its not worth the lawsuit to us, so I had a resolve it by paying the collections agency along with their fees.
