This client has a very old and very high mileage vehicle. It is a **** ****** Rav 4 with ****** miles. *** vehicle was lifted. Had an aftermarket metal skid plate on the bottom. Mismatched body panels and some spots even had spray foam in gaps in the front left wheel well. *** engine had a lot of oil covering it from many different areas. I advised the client to think hard if he wanted to spend this much money on a high mileage vehicle with a lot of other problems and other leaks. *** client insisted on going forward, so we did. We also found another oil leak and the client wanted to fix it while we were there, however he declined another leak that would have been easier while we were there. *** technician ended up fixing the declined leak as well at no charge. Once the vehicle was completed, there were leaks form other areas, however the rear main seal and transmission pump seal were both dry and good to go.

After picking up the vehicle, the client came back indicating his display on his dash was not lighting up properly when shifting gear. He also indicated there was a missing splash shield. We investigated both issues. *** problem with a indicator is bad switch. ***re was no indication that our work caused this problem and we did not charge to perform any testing on this problem as a courtesy. *** client claimed he was missing is a large shield and would be very easy to spot in a small shop like ours. We offered to replaced the switch at a cost of $400. *** shield is a part that is no longer made by ******. Again, as a courtesy, even though there was no evidence that the shield was there in the first place, we offered to make a check out to the client for the cost of the part, which was $45. He accepted this offer and picked up his vehicle.

Until this complaint, we had assumed that the problem was resolved to the clients satisfaction. *** truth is that with older vehicles, as well as vehicles that have modifications, sometimes there are multiple problems that need to be addressed. This is what lead me to ask the client, before we started work, if he wanted to put money into the vehicle.
