Gordon, ***************************** is pursuing wage garnishment based on a default judgment tied to a consumer debt that I do not acknowledge as mine. According to the alleged account, the last payment activity was in or before 2019. I was never properly served legal notice and only became aware of the judgment after garnishment began. I am now disputing the debt formally and preparing a cease-and-desist letter to their office. The alleged debt may be time-barred under Washington State law (RCW 4.16.040). Despite this, they have continued garnishment without providing proper verification or communication.I am requesting the immediate cessation of all collection activity, a full review of the judgment, and the removal of any negative credit reporting that may have resulted from this improperly handled account. This matter should be resolved legally and ethically, with my rights as a consumer fully respected.

A creditor client that our firm represents has a judgment against Complainant.  The file indicates he was properly served, and the Court has ordered him to pay the debt.  He had discussions about paying the debt with our firm in January, 2025, but he did not follow through.  We intend to use lawful means to enforce the judgment, and will continue to do so while the judgment remains valid and enforceable.

I was served by ********* via my personal email. Checked everything out and they were legitimate, so I called and they directed me to GAT law firm which has a 1 star review in ******. I called them and after checking my credentials, there is apparently someone with my same name, born same year (different days, months, and social #'s...obviously), but this company still served me!!! I asked them to send me a formal document absolving me of any involvement of the law suit and to contact ********* and have them confirm they will not serve me...to which I still have yet to receive an email, formal document, or anything confirming they have taken my name of the service process.

We're sorry that the Complainant was served based on mistaken identity.  He has no duties in that Court and may simply throw out the documents he was served with.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business, although they did not provide any documentation absolving me of any lawsuit or connection to the process being served.
Is this sufficient from a legal standpoint?  They have said they made a mistake with identity, and I am not the person they are looking for.  It isn't legally binding, but I have some paper trail from correspondence and this report to back myself up in court if they do somehow try and serve me.  Please let me know if you think this is sufficient?
In all reality, this is a predatory ********** and should be pursued or shut down by the ***********************

Please let me know if I should refute their response and ask for more documentation, if this will suffice please close the complaint.

    Thank you so much!

This company filed a court case, I was never notified of court date. I set up to pay them when I received the notice of the court filing. Paid them forever, until I was laid off, spoke to them several times updating them of my situation. I started a new job, and eventually I have my boss tell me Im being garnished. I made three payments which paid off the debt. I was then let go by my job. It has been two years since I paid them and then lost my job due to the garnishment and the job market has been horrific. Recently I receive a letter saying they are suing me and it looks like they are involving employment securities because they believe ESD is withholding information about my current job, which I dont have. I received nothing prior to this in the two years since I was garnished. I call and ask what is going on and Im informed its interest!?!?!?! They are suing me and were hoping to garnish for interest on a debt I paid, apparently. Ive asked repeatedly for a statement showing how I owe $200 of interest on a debt Ive paid. They have sent me a letter since saying I owe them. They have sent the original paperwork showing the debt Ive paid off. Yet nothing showing why they are trying to take me to court, like a statement showing how Ive incurred $200 of interest on a debt I paid in 5 weeks through garnishment. This Law firm/collection agency is disgraceful.

There is almost nothing in this complaint that is accurate.  I will attempt to address many of the inconsistencies here.

Our firm represents a Creditor client to whom the Complainant owes money.  Before filing a lawsuit we sent her letters and attempted to call her on the phone.  When that didn't resolve the debt, we filed a lawsuit in July, 2022.  After Complainant was served she contacted our office and established a repayment plan at $100 per month, each month until resolved.  We promised to freeze interest during repayment and secured this repayment plan with a stipulated judgment. (attached).  There was no Court date, as Complainant agreed to the entry of the attached judgment.

The interest would remain frozen so long as Complainant made her timely promised payments.  She says she "paid them forever" but the fact is she made three payments, and only two of them were timely.  Complainant paid $100 in August, 2022, $100 in September 2022, then nothing until February of 2023 when she paid $200.  Of the $1,749.85 she promised to pay, she actually paid $400.  At that point she was in material breach of the stipulation, and the judgment was then (and still remains) fully enforceable.  You'll note that the Court allowed 9% interest per annum from the date of entry of judgment.  There are also costs associated with garnishment that Complainant is required by law to pay.  Through the garnishment process, completed in July of last year, we collected $1,454.79.  That and the voluntary payments have paid $1,604.35 of principal, $210 in Costs, and $40.44 in interest leaving $195.81 due and owing.

Complainant has made no attempt to resolve the outstanding balance since the garnishment was complete in July of last year.  So we have moved the Court, on behalf of our client, for an Order allowing us to ask Employment Security to inform us of where Complainant is currently employed.  We have not initiated new legal action.  Rather, Complainant is requiring us to chase her to collect the remaining balance instead of contacting us and arranging for final payment.  Interest continues to accrue, and if more costs are expended, those will be passed on to her, as allowed by law.  Our preference is that Complainant reach out to our office and make arrangements to pay the remaining balance, instead of us continuing to pursue legal action.

This law firm represents a Creditor of the Complainant's.  She says that she does not owe the debt.  That's the purpose of litigation.  To find out whether she does.  We intend to secure this debt with a judgment in the County Court where Complainant resides.  In the meantime, if she wants documents or other discovery from us, she is welcome to reach out and make that request.

In 2009 I purchased a car with my mother as co-signer. I was then injured at work in 2010 and on *** through 2014 I pled bankruptcy and my debt for voluntarily returning the vehicle in 2010 was in the bankruptcy( the ********************* sold the vehicle at auction) Suddenly after all these years we are receiving threats and legal paperwork on this forgiven debt and they are directed at myself and my mother who was 94 and has died. I DO NOT *** this debt it was discharged through bankruptcy. I want the predatory collection firm to cease and desist immediately to stop harassing me for a discharged debt.

This firm is indeed trying to collect a debt from the Complainant, but it has nothing to do with the purchase of an automobile.  It is an online loan that she signed up for in 2021, well after her bankruptcy petition.  I regret any confusion, but the original creditor is clearly identified in all communications with the Complainant, and again, it is not an auto loan.  I invite the Complainant to reach out to this firm directly for more information about what is actually being collected.

I have been trying to contact GAT Law Firm since May of 2024 in regards to the debt collection. My wages were garnished by my employer for two months in January 2024. I made arrangements to pay monthly debt owed, and I started this in April. They have not responded to or contacted my employer, who needs a court order (my employer said they did not sign it correctly) to get my funds to me or the law firm. There have been numerous attempts by email and phone, but no one responds. Do I need to get legal representation?

Our law firm represents a Judgment Creditor to whom Complainant owes money.  We are collecting that money via the garnishment process.  In Washington state the garnishment process is long and cumbersome.  We have attached our petition for a Court Oreder to this response.  I'll also note that since the Complaint was made Complainant has been in contact with my firm and this same information has been exchanged.

This law firm served me paperwork that they were suing me for a collection agency. I was offered a settlement, and paid it over the phone to them. It has been several weeks, and they refuse to answer my emails or respond to me. I haven't received a single article stating my payment was accepted, or even confirmation. I emailed the debt collector they are supposedly representing, and the debt collector didn't have any idea about any of it.I 100% believe this law firm is a scam.

    Business Response

My law firm represented a creditor to whom Complainant owed money.  We filed a lawsuit against him in ************** ****** under case number 24CV28734 and he was served in Mid June.  Scam?  There's a whole Court file to prove the validity of this claim.  The claim is so valid, in fact, that Complainant agreed to pay the debt, and did so.  After he did so this office prepare and filed a dismissal of the case.  And about three weeks after the payment we issued a "paid letter" to the Complainant.  Note, we usually issue that letter 30 days after a credit card payment.  In this case we sent the paid letter early.  Further, the Complainant paid his bill out our website, where he automatically received a confirming email that the payment was received.

I cannot speak to why Complainant's expectations and timing weren't met.  I can say that everything happened in it's ordinary course.  Nothing out of the ordinary occurred here, I'm sorry that Complainant was unhappy about timing, but I'm glad he resolved this debt with my client.  Thank you.

I received 2 alleged debt letters (14 days apart)from Gordon **************************************** was shocked when I received these letters because I have never had any accounts or credit arrangements with this agency and more concerning was that they name 2 different credit companies in each letter, yet the reference #s, monetary amts, account numbers are all the same. This is absolutely appauling and an attempt to scam someone out of fake debt. I demand this agency cease all contact with me and delete both of these incorrect accounts from their database and credit bureaus. Thanks you for your prompt attention to this and swift removal of both of these accounts from my credit report.

The Complainant is correct.  The first letter sent had a typo on it describing an incorrect original creditor.  So we corrected the letter, and sent out a corrected version.  I will send debt validation notices to the Complainant and give him an opportunity to resolve his Wayfair debt before initiating debt collection litigation.

This debt collection agency is attempting to collect a debt written off by the principal. This debt is many years old. They are also attempting to garnish wages that would be exempt. This agency is predatory. I made an attempt to make minimum payment arrangements if they provided the correct amount owed, and offered a reasonable payment plan which they have not.

This company has filed against me on an old debt, to which I was paying $100 monthly. Then I got evicted and had to move into a more expensive place (the only home available) and started paying them $50 per month, but they refused my payments. They are now trying to garnish my wages. I am 66 years old and living on Social Security, with a meager writing income of under $1,000 per month. I want them to accept the $50 per month and STOP HARASSING me.

Our firm represents a creditor client to whom Complainant owes money, pursuant to a judgment entered in the *************************.  Complainant was paying toward her judgment, but then stopped in November of last year.  We then took steps to execute on the judgment, via a legally authorized writ of garnishment.  I'm happy to speak with Complainant about ************* for resolving the judgment, and she may contact me directly.
