On June 30th 2022 I brought my Mini ****** to the shop for a serpentine belt replacement. I was told that if I brought my own belt in the charge would simply be 1.5 to **** hrs labor, approximately $150.00 - $200.00. The shop called telling me that my belt tensioner was bad and it would have to be ordered. I approved the order and made arrangements to pick up my car that Friday. When I arrived to pick up my car, I was told that the engine had zero oil in it and they never started it or test drove it. When I dropped off my car it was not out of oil. I purchased 5 quarts and put in 4 quarts which made no sense whatsoever. When I started the engine, it made such a loud noise that everyone came running out to see what was going on. The Owner of the shop checked the dipstick and wiped it on his shorts, then proceeded to tell me my oil pump was shot and was not pumping oil and that the metal shavings indicated that my engine was bad, cost approximately $3,000.00 to replace. I said Id have to think about putting that kind of money into it and would let them know over the next couple days. The next day I experienced the same problem with losing the serpentine belt. Driving down the road I lost my brakes, steering etc. I had a friend that was also a reputable mechanic come to my house and take a look. He informed me that the tensioner that I was charged for had not been replaced and the failed tensioner would absolutely throw the belt. I had it towed to his shop and he replaced the belt and tensioner. I was told that the first belt had shredded and wound ** in the alternator causing it to burn out/fail. Ive emailed Harford And Mesman Mechanics several times as well as called and spoke in person. They accept no responsibility for anything that has happened. Now they say it was a different tensioner that was replaced. (Theres only 1) They charged Me $394.00 including the tensioner that wasnt replaced and now refuse to accept responsibility or refund the charges.
