I used Paula as an accountant to help me file my taxes. She made a mistake in filing my taxes, and has not fixed the issue. I likely owe money to the **** and do not know how to fix this myself. I have been reaching out since June, and it is now the end of September. She recently advised me to seek help elsewhere, but I do not feel that I should have to do this, since I paid for a service and it was not completed accurately. I would either like the money reimbursed or for Paula to follow through and correct the errors that were made.

      Date: 11/05/2023

***************** was my client and I prepared her 2022 taxes based on the original information she sent me, which was her W-2's and other information.  I prepared the return based on this information, e-filed the return, sent her the copies and she signed the return and paid for it. Following information was sent to me after the return had been filed.  A new W-2 had information on it that wasn't sumitted with the original information.  It looked to be a corrected W-2 from her or her employer. I told her we would have to do an amendment on her return.  I then had a few health problems and could not do the amendment.  she texted me and I told her I had just got out of the hospital.  She then informed me that she had legal problems and needed this done immediately.  I texted her taht if she needed it right away she could go to another tax preparer near her and get it done immediately.  She became angry and wanted her money back,  I sent all her papers and copies of everyhting I had back to her so she could get them done elsewhere.  I do not feel the need to refund the money that she paid for the return since I had done it and e-filed it for her in good faith.

I am rejecting this response because:

      Complaint: 20646089

I am rejecting this response because: the information submitted by the business is incorrect.  While it is true that there were missing documents, Ms. ********************** filed the paperwork she DID have incorrectly.  Specifically, she filed the same W2 twice in ********** and she was unwilling to correct this mistake.  She also did not inform me that she was having health issues, she only told me that there was an issue in her office that led to compromised documents and I was happy to provide her additional time to work through that. I tried to contact her many times over the course of several months (initiated contact to request correction on 6/30) via phone, text, and email and received minimal responses.   When Ms. ********************** states that I need it "resolved immediately," that is incorrect.  I had given her from July to mid September to respond and make corrections.  By mid-September, I simply asked that she make the correction by October 15 because every time I contacted her she kept putting off when she would get to it.  This is a more than reasonable amount of time to provide a correction for an internal error.  Of course she is not accountable for information she did not have, but she is responsible for filing the information she does have correctly. It is also incorrect that I told her I have "legal troubles." I simply informed her that I needed her to correct her mistakes to "avoid legal repercussions" as incorrectly filed taxes can eventually lead to this if not resolved.

      Sincerely,
