Good Fences Make Good Neighbors. It was with this in mind that we hired ***************** to remove a tree close to the property line. The fence was old but we worked with our neighbor to annually replace posts that had rotted, re-nailing the wire fence to the posts, rebuilding corners. It was sturdy enough to contain animals and that was its purpose. We discussed this fence with ***************** and he came up with a plan to take the tree down so that the fence would not be disturbed. In order to do that he said he would need to take out at least one other tree and we agreed to pay for that. On the day for the tree felling three young fellows arrive either not fluent in English or very determined to do things their way. The first thing they did was to shoot something into the tree that went sailing into our neighbors yard and immediately they climbed the up and over the fence. I ran over and asked them to stop but they paid me absolutely no attention and went over the fence enough times to pull large sections down and to smash the corner support. When they presented the $1000 bill for 2 trees I inquired about the second tree which they had not taken down and they pointed out that the way they did it they didnt need to take that tree down and the bill would be higher if we wanted them to remove that tree! Branches were left scattered in a 50 circle making it very hard to assess what the pluses and minuses of the job were. The promise to leave the fence undamaged was obviously in the minus column along with taking down the second tree. Then we discovered that while the trunk of the felled tree was on the ground the branches were still caught up in the branches of the neighboring trees thirty feet off the ground. The weight of the branches was pulling the smaller trees over, another minus. We contacted ***************** and He said he would make things right. He has never been back and we had to deal with the broken fence. He should refund $500 to us.
