Brought our vehicle into Aamco Transmissions with second gear kicking and third gear slipping. Got told it would be about a week to have it done. I specifically told the guy I am looking to upgrade the gear set and everything in it and would like to know if they can do that. He told me he would talk to his Builder and get a hold of me the next day. I did not hear back from him until I called to find out what was taking so long with the car. On the day we should have had it back he let me know that because of the holiday and his Builder went on vacation that it was going to be another week or so and that I still had not heard anything about the upgraded gears. Another week and I get told that the transmission is been rebuilt and is sitting on the bench ready to go in the car. I did not want the transmission just rebuilt the way they wanted it to I wanted it stronger for the purpose that we were building the car. After another 2 days we get a call the car is done on Friday at 20 minutes before they close so Monday I go down after work to get the car and my wife could barely pull it out of the parking lot because it is shuttering and stuttering so bad. I had to come back the next day because they were technically closed. The front desk guy wanted to go for a drive to try it out and he babied the car so you could barely feel anything and would not listen to my concerns all he continued to say was oh well it does not kick in second or slip into third anymore but the car cannot be driven. They were also supposed to put parts in the back of the car which the gentleman let me know when he called and said the car was ready that they were there and we found out that no we did not get our parts back. And they will not listen to our concerns about the entire process and we still no longer have a car because it is running worse than when we took it to their shop.Business Response

I uderstand the customers frustrations, and have addressed them with my manager. Regarding the upgraded components, my manager did talk to the builder and was told that this transmission is a very well designed transmission and does not recommend making any modifications to it. This information should have been passed along to the customer during the build process. I apologize that it was not. We do have the vehicle back in our shop addressing the issue that the customer is now experiencing. I have been in regular contact with this customer and have offered to install any upgraded components that the customer wants to supply me at no charge to the customer. He has declined this offer. This transmission is under warranty and will be taken care of under warranty. We will strive to improve on our communication with our customers. This customer was charged a fair price that is in line or less than the price charged by others who perform these types of services.Customer Answer

Complaint: 21997077I am rejecting what the company has said for the simple fact that a weak job has turned into a month and a day and now that we have gone and picked up the car again it is still not fixed correctly. I had to take it directly to ******************* to get a printout showing the alignment on the car was completely off to the point that when I drove it I could not tell if the transmission was fixed or not. When turning the wheels the tires scrubbed so bad from the alignment being off. ******************* recommended that we do not drive this car at all because of how bad it is. I sent the owner the printout from ******************* and the owner wanted to try to tell me they did not take the tie rods off so it did not need an alignment. They took off the struts and the front axles and the knuckles from the vehicle which requires an alignment when put back on for caster and camber. They also drove the car 34 miles or so from their paperwork till the time I got it back. When they put some gas in the car they broke the gas cap hanger off which is not too big of a deal but they did not say anything about it. When whoever was test driving it they spilled coffee all up alongside the driver's window on the driver's door and it was not cleaned up. Somebody also parked it alongside a curb completely rubbing the tire and wheel against the curb. These were brand new Wheels that had no damage when we took them in. The company does not want to do anything about correcting that issue. Upon the entire time I've been trying to deal with the company to get our car fixed correctly for the $5,000 we paid for the job. We've been constantly told that it's everything else Under the Sun except for what they did. We had to have the car warrantied the moment we picked it up because my wife can tell that the transmission was wrong and their front desk guy wanted to say that it was because the steering rack had a small leak. After arguing the point they took it back in and found out it was the transmission. Couple weeks later when I got to pick it up I went in and told them that the alignment was off and I started getting a bunch more excuses. Now I had to take the car directly from their shop to ******************* to have the car finished being fixed and I still haven't got to drive it enough to find out if the transmission is decent or not. This company cannot accept their mistakes and want to keep blaming it on everything else. There's been no offer of a discount there's been no offer of anything other than the most minimal fix when I tell them that they have messed something up and have proved them wrong. I am attaching a picture of the tire and wheel that you can see was completely rubbed against the curb taken in amco's parking lot while I was asking the owner who ran it against the curb and all he could do is ask me " is the original problem fixed?" Well I don't know if the original problem is fixed because they created more problems on top of our original problem. I am also attaching a map showing how far it is from their shop to my house that's when I did the math and found out how much they have drove the car. And a picture of the odometer sitting in my driveway. I am also attaching the letter from ******************* showing how bad the alignment was. I am also attaching a picture of the coffee running down the top of the driver's door and a picture of the gas cap hanger broke. When I have brought up my concerns multiple times they want to act like they have done nothing wrong and in fact the owner is barely taking care of the alignment. He truly believes they should not have to align a car after removing struts and ******** from the car. The more I have talked to him the less it seems he knows about the work they should be doing. In the beginning I went in and telling them I was looking to have the transmission upgraded and built stronger because we plan on putting a slightly bigger motor in front of it. His Builder said it is not necessary because this transmission is strong but his Builder obviously doesn't know what he's talking about because he couldn't complete the job correctly and after they drove it they didn't think anything was wrong until the owner drove it and found out there is something wrong. The job I came in for was not done the job was done the way Aamco wanted to do it and they did not offer anything about the parts until after the job was completed and messed up. That's when he wanted to offer if I brought in the upgraded Parts they would put them in with no warranty but they couldn't even correctly fix the car the way they wanted to do it. How can I trust them to build the transmission the way I wanted? I am now out $5,000 and have a car that is still not drivable that I still cannot find out if the problem is fixed and I will still have to have the transmission rebuilt the way I wanted it done in the first place. This has been a total waste of my time and money going to this company just to have my car destroyed worse. So under all that I reject what the owner has said.
Sincerely,

I have been in the *********** business for nearly 30 years. I recognize that nobody is perfect and that things fail. That is why there are warranties provided on all of our transmissions. I have discussed with this customer several times that the most important thing to me is making sure that the vehicles transmission is working properly. If it is not, he only needs to bring it in to have it repaired under warranty. As far as the coffee in the car. There is not anyone in my shop that drinks coffee at all, so there is no way that coffee got spilled in the vehicle from our shop. He showed me the wheel, and I told him that lets make sure the transmission is working ok before we start worrying about other issues. I am happy to address the transmission under warranty if this customer is still having issues.
