My partner and I rent a unit from Veal Connection Corp for 5+ years. On March 14th, I received a call from *********************** to discuss an increase in our rent. I advised I was at work and asked him to call me back at a later time. I didn't hear back from ***** until March 18th at 11:42am. I advised him I was at work but ***** insisted I take his call. ***** proceeded to inform me that he was raising the rent from $1750 to $2500. He suggested a few options 1) keep the rent where is today and we pay the utilities 2)move out and he would pay for storage while we looked for a new place. I asked about the avgerage cost for the utilities but ***** was unable to give details because there is only one meter for the entire building. Then he withdrew both options and said it would be in his best interest to just raise the rent, that times were tough and it would benefit him more to raise the rent. I advised ***** that what he was proposing was outside of Oregon State laws. He kept insisting that I agree to this rent increase or else we would need to move out. I advised him that I needed to discuss this with my partner. Unfortunately, ***** did not want to hear this and demanded I agree to his terms. On March 24th, my partner, *****************, sent an email to ***** ***************************** with ****** laws pertaining to landlords raising rent. *************************, ******* wife, confirmed receipt of this email on April 4th at 10:51am via text message. On June 10th, we received several letters from Veal Connection stating we are to vacate the premises by August 1st. These letters were sent via *********** and ***** We have since advised Veal Connections that we are not vacating per ****** Laws. We have no problem with rent increases that are consistent with ****** laws but we will not be bullied, which is what ***** has been trying to do. I am filing this complaint, in hopes of coming to some type of resolution. We have not had any issues, complaints or late payments.
