I went to Aesthetic Institute because I hoped to remove some unwanted body hair and save some money. I was told that I am a good candidate for laser hair removal and It was explained that I would need a series of treatments to see "permanent hair reduction". My treatment sessions were spaced out several weeks/months apart and I was told to "trust the process," "the laser is working," and "it can take several weeks to see results." I had several sessions on my arms, glutes, chest, and legs. After several sessions, I reported that I was not seeing any results. I was told "not to worry" and informed the laser settings would be increased and that I would see better results next time. The problem is that after 19 sessions on my arms, I was still not seeing any results and their laser actually made my hair growth worse. I developed "paradoxical hypertrichosis," a condition they told me was not possible. I spent well over $5,000 on treatments for hair removal and only got more hair growth!! I was very upset and felt misled. I asked about solutions to this problem and they told me to go somewhere else and "maybe try electrolysis." I asked for a partial refund since the treatment was not effective and made my hair grow even coarser and thicker. Aesthetic institute refused to work with me. I was accused of being inappropriate with students and told me not to come back there. I asked for my chart notes and can also see how data was falsified. I also found out they used a laser that has been shown to cause paradoxical hypertrichosis in people of color, instead of using an NdYag laser because "it takes too longer." I am reaching out because I firmly believe they are treating people wrong and unfairly. If I do not speak up, I believe many consumers are going to be taken advantage of or severely hurt.
