Beware the contract! After a few preliminary discussions and expenses, we decided to work with **** ****** on a new kitchen projectAfter some discussion, we agree to pay ten percent of the total project up front as a preliminary commitment.Along with signing a contract for the work. Putting down such a large sum ($20,000) is always problematic. You have no invoices or idea on how the money is spent. Better to negotiate smaller increments for services rendered, if you canBecause of the large cash outflow, we were also less inclined to consider parallel work with two contractors at the same time to compare the cost and value of services *********** the work developed we were allowed to see visual progress in design but not allowed to have copies of the workI began to feel unease when I could not have a copy of the design even to correct mistakes. They said it was company policy. They also confirmed that if we did not go forward with them to completion , our money is forfeit and we would get no documents even though , I my case, I provided the design for the kitchen, I could not get it back in finished formAt that point we lost trust in the process which protects the company at considerable customer expense and terminated the project.

We had Neil Kelly out to do a bid for window replacements in our **** home. We're looking for quality wood windows and thought perhaps an established company like NK would offer both quality and reliability. Quality maybe, but as for the rest ****First off, the salesperson was evasive about costs, like they couldn't possibly know what windows are going for today even thought it's literally their business (supply chain, labor issues, waaa-waaa-waaa). When pushed, they gave a ballpark estimate that sounded reasonable. They then asked for us to pay $1500 as "feasibility retainer" because obviously having to take rough measurements and then actually price out windows in a written bid is HUGE job and they need to be extremely well compensated just to tell us how much they charge. Foolishly, and because NK has a reasonable reputation (not sure why) we agreed, thinking our final bid would be in the "ballpark" more or less matching the verbal estimate. Punch line? Of course the final bid was double the quote. ******* reviews show several similar experiences - our prices are a secret and you'll have to pay to get anything approaching an accurate estimate. EVERY OTHER COMPANY we contacted was transparent and forthcoming with a specific, in-writing bid at NO CHARGE. Also, everybody else came in at half what NK did (or equal to their verbal bid). What a scam NK is currently running. Beware. Read reviews. Ask other companies first, so if you do seek a bid from NK you've got something to compare it to. We previously got a bid from NK for an attic remodel and the person was straightforward, helpful, and gave us a bid without any charge or so-called "feasibility retainer." The bid was equivalent to another company but the other company could (and did) beat NK's time-frame by months. Neil Kelly, you're just not competitive these days. Won't be back.
