Dates of transaction were from June 2, 2023 through March *******. During this period I had 11 visits to see Dr. ***** *****. Each time, he would tell the receptionists how much I owed and I would pay the full amount. My insurance at the time was Humana Gold Plus and I would also pay a co-pay amount above the treatment cost for the office visit. On August 31, 2024, (14 months after the first bill) I began receiving billing statements saying I owed $150 for each of 10 appointments. The bills did not itemize or describe the services. When I contacted them, they said my insurance didn't pay because I needed authorization from my primary care provider. I had never been informed that I needed this authorization and they sent no bills for services until 14 months after the services. They neglected to deduct even the co-payments. I had been receiving services through **** *** for a number of years and had never been informed that my insurance company said I needed a new authorization for treatment. I requested itemized ********* and they later sent invoices that deducted the co-pay amounts. I paid **** *** a total of $2630 for these visits. Their latest invoices say I owe a balance of $1180 for 10 visits. If they had let me know in June 2023 that I needed a new authorization from my primary, I would have either gotten the authorization or I would not have gone back to them for services. Instead they waited for over a year to let me know my insurance didn't pay. This complaint is not against Dr. ***** but the billing services of **** *** Healing Arts. My insurance provider told me to get a back-dated referral and they may still pay the bills. However, **** ***** practice of waiting to bill 14 months after a service is extremely unethical and needs to be reported. They also need to provide the patient with an itemized billing, showing what I had paid and deducting the appropriate amounts from the bill without having to request it.
