Date of transaction: 11/15/24 On 01/16/23, I was hit by a car while cycling to work. On the same day, I went to ********-Willamette ER, where I was seen by a doctor, given an X-ray of my leg, and given a tetanus shot. The driver's insurance agent (**** ********) found the driver at fault and paid the medical expenses amounting to $3656.96 in June 2023. On 06/07/23, Mr. ******** informed me that he had not received "actual bills from the ER doctor ***** ****"On 02/24/24 (more than a year after the accident), I received a bill in the amount of $281.72 from Doctors Emergency *********. I called their number and told them that Mr. ******** with ***** **** was paying my medical bills. They told me to disregard the bill for the time being. On 02/27/24, Doctors ******* informed me that "***** **** was not rebilled due to a system error."In multiple messages between March and August 2024, I reiterated that I would be willing to pay the bill, IF they would send me a list of the charges showing what ***** **** paid and the remaining balance (since they had made an error).I never received a reply or list of charges, and on 10/22/24, Doctors Emergency ********* handed the account over to Puget Sound Collections (PSL).I spoke with PSL by phone and reiterated my request for transparency with the charges owed. On 11/13/24 I received a letter from PSL showing a balance of $289.29 due to accrued interest. The letter also included a printout stating that ***** **** paid $281.72 to me rather than directly to Doctors ******** I called *** and was told to ask Mr. ******** for clarification. On the same day, I emailed Mr. ******** to ask for confirmation that the amount he sent me in June 2023 included the $281.72. He has not replied, so I just paid the amount of $289.71 to PSL.Doctors ******* should have been transparent with the charges. My credit score may have been negatively impacted; I paid $289.71; and I still do not know if I really owed this amount.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 12/13/2024

There are several inaccuracies in the reply from Doctors Emergency Room Corporation, PC:

      • I did NOT send several emails.  Instead, I responded immediately to each notice, asking for the same billing transparency which I have yet to receive.
      • They did NOT offer my attorney and information to settle the account, because I do NOT have an attorney.
      • I NEVER disputed the account with either the business or the collection agency.

Doctors Emergency Room Corporation notified me that they had experienced a “system error”—more than a year after the services were rendered.

All I ever asked for was an invoice that showed the total charges and the amount ***** **** paid toward those charges, so I could confirm that the balance of $281.72 was correct.

An invoice should show the charges for labor (time) and supplies, but all I ever received was a dollar amount owed.  During my visit to the ER, I received a consultation, an X-ray, bandaging, and a tetanus shot.  How much did these items cost?  How much did ***** **** pay?

All I have ever asked for is transparency regarding the charges, especially since there was an admitted billing error that occurred more than a year after my visit to the ER.

When we have repairs done to our vehicles or our homes, the business we hire gives us an itemized estimate showing the costs for labor and materials.  Our health is far more valuable than our possessions, yet as patients we do not receive an itemized invoice showing the charges owed.

I have paid the charges that Doctors Emergency Room Corp claims I owe.  I never disputed the charges.  I just asked for transparency.
