I hired ******************************* to build me a deck and fence. He is not a nice man once he starts working for you and he hires shotty service providers. They and he do not do a professional job and cut a lot of corners. I, unfortunately, couldn't be on site so I asked for photos but he didn't send me photos where I could tell his workmanship so when I get there I see my $10k composite deck is not trimmed and was already bowed. Shotty set of cheap small stairs that cost 3k. And then my $10k fence....well where do I start...he put the gate opening from the garage wall so any RV backing into the space would rip off the side of my garage! (when he knew that's why I wanted the gate there), Then he used the cheapest hooks on the 2 gates that broke right away and he didn't do the fence to the spot I pointed out and asked him to put it. I purposely asked to make sure the fence is past my neighbors front door so that I and they have privacy but nope, he stopped it right before it!! AND THEN, he put the wood panels all the way to the ground touching the 100% constantly wet dirt/earth! No breathing space and they will rot right away. There should be a small clearance. AND THEN, he lives on the ****** coast, I don't. This is my vacation property. He doesn't advise me that the fence should be built with room for the strong 80 mile winds that come blowing through (because if you do privacy fence it falls over) and sure enough, that's what happened to my $10,000 US dollar fence. It started falling over on all 3 sides. AND THEN, I have to hire another handy man finally after trying to prop up this brand new fence and my neighbours complaining about it, I hire a handy man for another $3,000 to fix the fence so it's what they call a 'neighbourly fence' or the type of fence that should be built when you are right on the Ocean in ******. And low and behold guess what he finds out....HE DIDN'T USE CEMENT FOOTINGS! NO WONDER IT FELL OVER SO QUICKLY. **** is bad. He should not be in business

*********** Smallwood, Owner of Smallwood Builders have lived in the Lincoln County area all my life and have never had a comment that I am "not a nice man" and I have never hired or worked with " shotty service providers." I am always on site overseeing the project. I never "cut a lot of corners," I totally leave it up to the owners to make the final decisions of what they want. Sure, as an experienced contractor, I make recommendations but I complete the project the way the customer wants it. Addressing the comment that I never sent pictures is an outright lie. I have proof that pictures were sent, also text and emails that prove that I was in contact with the customers all the way throughout the project. When first putting the ** gate in, the customers decided they didn't like the location so we moved it at no charge to please the customers. The customers had several ideas they wanted done, which we did!! I have text proving that they were very pleased with the outcome! Now they are upset because these3 year old ideas were not the best for the ****** Coast! That was their choice! Yes, we have heavy rain and high winds in this area which causes damage. Because I stand behind my work, If they had contacted me, I would have stopped by and fixed anything I had worked on. Stainless hardwear was used on the gate and concrete was used on the fence post, a neighborhood fence was suggested and again I have proof through text and emails that these things were done right. I also have a copy of the last email sent, stating that I wanted to resolve any disagreements and would hold 5% of the final payment (which was in the contract) until they were satisfied. To this day I have never received this payment. I believe no matter what I did they were not ever going to be honest or satisfied. I also stated that I work hard to make my customers happy, I am a man of my word, take pride in whatever I do, and I totally believe in honesty! And when they hired me, they said it was based specifically on my good reputation. Which you have to have in a small community. That is why we are currently booked out years in advance! Thank you! Respectfully ****
