March 2023 hired ****************** to update our camper van. Hired to change over lead acid house batteries to lithium, Install an awning, install speakers and amplifier and a few other updates. It is a **** **** Econoline with only 87k miles. It is a stock Traverse made by Pleasure Way. Business has a 5 year warranty. Both fuses and holders on either side of the dc to dc charger melted and scorched electrical wiring on second trip rendering us unable to charge house batteries while driving. Stereo deck fried on the first trip and wood dash was carved up by company's stereo subcontractor when they did some troubleshooting for failing stereo deck options that didn't work after they installed an amplifier. I took the van to a car stereo business where I bought the deck 11 months earlier. They replaced the deck under warranty and I covered for Vantasy. I refused the reinstall of the amplifier and go no response about repairing the damaged wood dash. The electrical dc charging issue is being deflected by being told to replace our alternator. Two alternator shops tested and said replacing the alternator is a waste of money, that it is fine. We agreed to replace it anyway but had conditions that if that doesn't work. We are reimbursed. We offered to bring in the van and were told hey would not do anything except to downgrade the charging capacity by half. Communication was cut off and limited to texting.

    Business Response

    Date: 08/23/2023

This complaint arose because of breakdowns in communication.

Customer and I were working together diligently via text message and some phone conversations to resolve one of the listed items.  In the midst of this conversation, I experienced an unforeseen death of a family member. During this communication I let the customer know of this death and tried to answer the best that I could at the time in my current state. The customer sent her condolences but continued to asks questions and in my state was not able to answer her question adequately and said I would not be available for a phone conversation and at the moment there was nothing more that I could do.  My intent was only referencing the current moment due to personal grief and supporting other family members.  The customer later shared with me that she believed I was cutting off communication and not honoring our agreement.  We have since exchanged an email and had a lengthy phone conversation, clearing the air and agreed on a path moving forward to resolve her concerns.

The customer, due to geographical challenges and convenience, will have her electrical system evaluated by an RV specialist close to them and the findings of the evaluation will hopefully provide answers to the current electrical issues being experienced.  We will then discuss the next steps and the customer has agreed to deliver the vehicle to me for repairs.
