As the customer stated we did re-lap valves on his cylinder off the machine on 6/15/2020. The customer was to install the cylinder himself on the machine. Many factors come into play when installing parts on a machine. For instance, if the timing is off or the crank shaft is in poor condition issues will continue to occur. There are variables we cannot establish because we did not have the entire machine at our facility to inspect and we were not the ones that completed the cylinder reinstall on the head.
After the initial re-lap of the valves the customer called about 1 year later, 4/27/2021, and stated he had issues. The cylinder was inspected, and it was found to have a cracked valve guide. The valves were lapped and the customer supplied valve seals and new springs. The Cylinder was sent out to another machine shop to have the cracked valve pressed out. The customer was charged $186.06 which was the cost we incurred when we sent the cylinder out.
We completed the repair at a discounted rate out of goodwill to the customer to try and help them out, not because we felt obligated to the failure in the cylinder. The warranty for a brand-new track bike is 30 days from manufacture. Dealerships do not guarantee work after a 15-day span let alone a 1 year span. The variables at play when a customer installs a part onto their machine in their own home after a repair are too numerous to consider. The way they ride the machine, the type of fuel they use, the maintenance they perform on their machine, and in this case the work the customer did on their own machine are all situations that affect the performance and longevity of a machines parts.
After we gave the customer his cylinder back several months had yet again passed, and the customer called back on October 25, 2022, to say the machine had lost compression and valves were backing out. We explained that without having the entire machine here and just using the notes of the previous work order cylinder rebuild we could not determine the issue over the phone. We asked the customer to bring in his entire machine.  The Cylinder was found with a broken oil ring (suspected from installation into the machine, not performed by **). The valves were okay, but the keepers for the valves needed to be replaced. We sent the cylinder out to another shop to have a valve guide replaced. The customer was charged $110.00.
Once the customer received the machine back, he then called and said the bike died and was not running right. He brought the machine back on February 15, 2023. The machine needed a new head and we were unable to determine the exact cause on the bottom end that was causing this issue without more time and labor at the customers expense. The thought was that the crank is bad and that it may be causing things to stick. The exhaust valve was also found stuck in the head and bent. Again, there is likely something else happening in the machine causing the issue. The ideal way to go about the issue is to take the engine out and inspect all engine components, especially on the bottom end of the motor. The issue we ran into with this is it would cost the customer 9 hours in labor and that does not include any parts needed in order to completely rebuild the engine. The cost for proceeding this route would cost more than a brand new bike. ***, the owner, has discussed this with the customer. He also bought a used Cylinder in good condition to try and help.  This was $800.00 our cost.

I am rejecting this response because: that is not the whole story and I have the recipes to show and the text messages to show and he states he sent it off twice to have valve guide replaced why didn't he just do them all the 1st time instead of taking a chance on my bike I have had another machanic work on my bike and now it runs great but it's still needs work do to there neglect towards my bike why it was there and they just trying to cover there ***** bc they messed up my bike and the job I paid them to do 3 times rebuild my head in the end was not finished it ran for 15 min after they redid the head the last time and that's why they had me bring the whole machine over 4 times my head was done and 4 times it failed my bottom end was replaced 2 yrs ago and the only reason it took a yr and then a few months the next time is I was struggling with a custody case for my kid and lost my garage so didn't get to put my bike back together right away it was parked in storage till I got to as I explained to them also I have 1 different witnesses to each time the bike ran bc I ride with the same people when my bike is running *** wants to blame my bottom end but since I had a friend put my bike back together with me it's been running in so it proves the failers were on them and there work and the way they gave my bike back as a basket case and nothing bolted together was complete disrespect and un professional I will never go to l and d again and neither are anyone I know after they have seen what I've gone through there over 30 other people online that have had rhe same experience there and it's not right or fair to anyone especially a low income single father like me that already struggles to try and keep what toys I got after loosing everything else I want my bike fixed to the shape it was when I left it there and refund foe the work I paid for that still to this day was not finished or done correctly or I do want a bike to replace the bike they let rot behind there shop out side it's completely ridiculous it's gone this far and they can't just be professional and take care of there customers the right way

    Sincerely,

To the customers first point, we have two work orders showing that the head was sent out to ****** repair center; RO#***** and RO#*****.Keep in mind these work orders are 16 months apart from one another.
To the second point, the machine was only here two times as a unit itself. The prior times were only the top end out of the machine. The top end was repaired by ** and another shop and we completed those repairs as requested- repair orders RO#****** (6/15/2020) and RO#***** (4/27/2021).
The third time (Ro#*****) ******************************************************************************** the entire bike because the same issue repeated itself and we wanted to make sure the installation process, completed by the customer or subsequent issues with the machine itself werent causing the valve issues to reoccur.
When the customer brought the machine to the shop, the mechanic notes dictate that there was in fact a broken oil ring, which usually occurs during install (installation we did not complete. The customer did) The cylinder head did not have all the dowels, mechanical tensioner and the lock nut was not tight, which were all parts that we did not complete. These issues factor into the longevity of the repairs completed by **. We completed the work order and gave the machine back to the customer. The customer also stated in his last refusal to this case that he was only able to run the bike for 15 minutes. Social media posts on the customers ******** provides a different picture. The customer made happy posts on Jan 14 and Jan 27 showing this particular bike up at the local riding area.
We also understand low income and we try our hardest to accommodate every customers financial needs. We also purchased a slightly used **** part with the intentions of helping the customer yet again, but because of the severe bad mouthing the mechanic did not feel inclined to continue to work with the customer. The financial strain of digging deeper into the bottom end of the bike to find alternative measures is very expensive and time-consuming and the cost of doing so outweighs even the cost of the bike.
