I brought my 2013 Subaru Outback in with a check engine light on, needed a thermostat, which they fixed. They sent me an inspection report that stated that repairs requiring immediate attention included: A ball joint ($675) and they recommended struts be replaced at the same time. They based the ball joint recommendation on a noise they heard while driving it into the shop and the struts ($1275) based on mileage. If they would have actually looked they would have seen that the struts are only 2 years old (car drives great by the way). So they recommended $2100 in unnecessary service. In addition they put, under needs attention now, an air filter and cabin air filer, and again if they would have actually looked they would have seen that these too were recently replaced. They recommended more than $2200 in service that did not need to be done, they obviously didn't even look before making the recommendations, and these items were on the inspection report as urgently needed to be done (marked in red). They told me the details when I called and asked but looking at the approval list you get in email it appeared by car would fall apart if I did not immediately do all of their recommended service. To me it appears as though this is a service department trying to take advantage of people who don't understand cars, they are deceptive practices for sure bordering on fraud.

I was pleased with my purchase. After designated time I took car in for oil and oil filter change. The following day my car burst into flames. I got out just in time. The reason was that oil filter was put on improperly, as was leaking oil. I called service **** and was told to bring it in the next morning and they would take a look. I asked if I could drive it and was told yes. So I did some errands. Going home my car was on fire. Fortunately a young man, chased me down yelling for me to get out of the car. I jumped out, ran up the road, and the car erupted into flames. I did get a settlement from my insurance company. As this was not my fault, I should in no way be held responsible. Which brings me up to the real issue. No one at Subaru has shown me any concern. They have passed me from department to department. All saying this isnt their area of expertise. I am asking from them an amount of $2700 credit for an environmental clear coat and hood protection I had put on my first car. They say that is not their responsibility. Everyone says they need to take it up with the power that be. They treated me like the little woman. Im quite certain they would not have acted with such disrespect had a man been standing by my side. Ive been in contact with Subaru of America, but no response yet. Apparently I cannot file a claim against them, as I was not insured. So many other details, but Im sure this review is already too long. Just the topping on the cake. They charged me for the oil change. I contacted as to why and they say I didnt have a maintenance contract. My purchase agreement shows that I bought and paid for it. If it wasnt so horrible, it would be funny.
