On 3/10/22, I signed a contract with ********* to rent an RV from 8/26/22-9/6/22. The total cost, including all deposits and fees, was $4250.00. I was told the rental RV would be a new 2023 model, which it was. A reasonable person would expect a new model to be in ideal working order. When I picked up the rental, it only had about **** miles on the odometer and I was told that I was the 2nd renter to use the vehicle. We drove a short distance (1 exit down the highway) and experienced a grinding, high-pitched whining noise every time the accelerator was engaged. It was very alarming. I exited the highway and immediately notified my contact at *********. I was told to proceed with the trip and call him back if we broke down. The noise was so loud that I was unable to carry a conversation with my spouse or listen to music. The noise not only generated migraine headaches, but also triggered high anxiety regarding the vehicle's ability to safely make it to our destination. We recorded the noise on our phone and used a sound meter to document the decibel range, which was over 100, similar to an impact wrench or or bulldozer. Gratefully, the vehicle did not break down. During our rental period, we drove the vehicle approximately 20 hours, impacting about 2.5 days of our 11 day rental. Upon returning the rental on 9/6/22, I requested a discount for the poor experience and was told that the noise would need to be investigated first. I told the manager that I would follow up within a week. I followed up by email on 9/15/22 and requested a 20% discount ($700) on the base rental price of $3500. I was told "No" via email and told that I was the first renter (rather than 2nd, as previously told) and they claimed that they were unaware of the noise issue prior to my rental. In my opinion, the business "should have" known the condition of their rental and once informed, should be willing to make restitution for the poor rental experience caused by their rental vehicle.
