On July 7, 2023 I purchased a bathroom scale at T&M hardware 509 Lincoln ave Bellevue. I took it home removed the cellophane wrapper, took it out of the box and stood on the scale. I could not read the numbers. They are too small. Monday July 10, 2023 I attempted to return it and buy a digital scale. I had my receipt for $16.99 plus tax. (I bought some other items). The young salesgirl refused to return it, saying you took the cellophane off. I had to to get it out of the box! I need a scale that I can see. She refused.

      To Whom It May Concern,

When Ms. ******** came in to return the scale, she stated that the scale wasn't calibrated because when she got on it her weight was 30 lbs. higher than what she weighed. The scale was open and the dial was set at zero so I let her know that the scale was balanced. She insisted that I get on it and weigh myself to see that it was off. I reiterated that the scale was set to zero and that the scale was not defective. She insisted that it was, so I finally got on and weighed myself, and the scale said 100 lbs., which is what I weigh. I informed Ms. ******** that the scale was not defective and did not meet the conditions of our return policy since it has to be in re-sellable condition with the original packaging intact. Since the product was used and the original packaging could not be restored to re-sellable condition, she was denied a refund.

At no point did Ms. ******** communicate that not being able to see the numbers on the scale was her reason for wanting to return the item. Had she stated that she (an older woman) was not able to read to the numbers on the scale and wanted something with larger print, then we certainly would have been more understanding of her situation and looked to work with her to find a scale to meet her needs.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
I definitely told them I could not read it and would like a digital scale .  I had to take the plastic wrap off to get it out of the box. That was the only time I used the scale.
