At Raceway Chevrolet, 1124 Hellertown Road, Bethlehem, PA, I unexpectedly encountered a rare, low-production 2008 ******** known as a *** ******* Special Edition ***. On May 29, 2023, I was invited to accompany an individual to Raceway Chevrolet to inspect a vehicle they were interested in buying. We returned to the dealership on May 30, and I saw the 2008 Z06 in Raceway’s showroom. By the close of business on May 30, I purchased the ******** for the dealership asking price of $64,774. That evening, I reviewed all documents provided to me and discovered significant problems. Starting on May 31 and continuing through June 7, when I took possession of the ********, I had numerous interactions with dealership personnel. These resulted in the worst experience I’ve had with any business. Four major issues became evident: (1) Raceway Chevrolet represented the *** ******* Special Edition *** as authentic. However, from a document (Appendix A) they provided after I had signed the sales agreement, it was obvious the ******** had been modified. Significant changes affecting its market value had been made to the interior seats and steering wheel. (2) The dealership did not disclose its knowledge that the engine needed a significant repair for an oil leak. I discovered the oil leak during my pre-purchase inspection of the vehicle and reported it to the salesman. (3) The dealership committed a classic “bait and switch” regarding the vehicle warranty. Before signing the sales agreement, the salesman gave me a “Used Car Protection Program” warranty document (Appendix C). The final sale documents instead established “NO DEALER WARRANTY” for the ******** (Appendix D). (4) As I pursued resolving these issues with two dealership managers, the situation quickly turned contentious, wherein I was subjected to intimidation and insult. The explanations and solutions offered by the dealership were insufficient. My full complaint and all appendices are uploaded as supporting documents.

    Business Response

    Date: 08/18/2023

I am sorry to hear *** **** is still unhappy. I was not here at the time he purchased the vehicle, but have spoke to the employees he interacted with. Raceway Chevrolet acted in good faith throughout the entire transaction. As *** **** stated, there was an oil leak he requested that they repaire prior to him taking delivery. Raceway Chevrolet did, in fact, repair that leak as requested. After he took delivery, he did complain to management at Raceway Chevrolet that the seats were not original and he was unhappy about that. Although no dealership can guarantee that the equipment that came with a car when originally produced and sold new is still the same as when it is resold 15 years later, Raceway Chevrolet offered *** **** $2000 as a good faith offer which he accepted and left happy. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. **** ********* ************

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the response. If no reason is received your complaint will be closed as Answered]

     Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

    1.       The response fails to address a majority of issues presented in the original complaint.
    2.       The responding individual claims “Raceway Chevrolet acted in good faith throughout the entire transaction.” This is untrue.
    a.       It is not good faith for Raceway Chevrolet to have withheld from the prospective buyer their knowledge of an oil leak that represented an expensive repair. I discovered the oil leak the day I purchased the vehicle. The day I took delivery, I was advised by a Raceway Chevrolet manager that they knew about this problem but did not disclose it to me.
    b.       It is not good faith to have the salesperson state the vehicle would be covered by a warranty and then the contractual paperwork indicate the ******** has “no warranty.”
    c.       It is not good faith to accuse me of placing a stop order on the purchase check only to later admit it was “an error in their finance department.”
There were additional displays of absence of good faith as listed in the original complaint.
    3.       The responding individual is incorrect to claim I complained about the seats after taking delivery of the vehicle. On June 1, 2023, I brought to Raceway Chevrolet’s attention that the ********’s seats and steering wheel were not authentic for the 2008 Limited Edition ***. I did not take delivery of the ******** until June 7, 2023.
    4.       Raceway Chevrolet continues to invoke the term “original” regarding the seats et al. Both in person and in the original complaint I’ve emphasized that the issue concerns authenticity of every aspect of the rare ********. This lack of authenticity impacts the ********’s market value now and in the future. Without authenticity of every aspect of the ********, Raceway Chevrolet overpriced the vehicle.
    5.       I was not “happy” upon taking delivery of the ********. Prior to going to the dealership on June 7, I decided to terminate all discussion regarding the dispute and had planned to pursue other avenues for resolution. Simply put, I was not happy on June 7, and I’m not happy now. My perspective has not changed—dealing with Raceway Chevrolet has been the worst experience I’ve encountered with any business!
    Regards,

    ***** ****
