On 7/24/24, I brought both of my sons in to be evaluated for orthodontic treatment. My younger sons appointment was uneventful and went well. However, when it came time for my older son, who happens to be autistic, it was a completely different situation. Prior to coming in I did inform the staff of my sons needs and I did make sure they were comfortable with treating him. I was assured that this would not be an issue and they accommodate disabilities often. Upon arrival I reminded them again. We waited a total of three hours while there. My son is autistic. While he was very patient, this definitely wasnt easy for him. Waiting this long for any child is hard, but three hours? When the assistant came to take my son, she did not seem to know that he was autistic, or that I would be coming with him. Instead, she handed me a sheet explaining my financial obligations and insurance information. I was still trying to explain my sons needs. They did allow me back, but they seemed confused that I wanted the same type of appointment that my younger son had just a few hours ago. When we finally saw the orthodontist, *** ******* she didnt tell me his treatment plan, she simply said that I dont think orthodontics will work out for him, theres a lot of sensory stuff involved. She had no suggestions on where to bring him only that she didnt think he could do it because he was being squirmy (after waiting for three hours). She did suggest I take my son to programs located 2-3 hours away suited for kids with special needs. My son is considered mild as far as his official diagnosis goes. He does not have violent behaviors. He is verbal and understood everything that was said. She did not speak to him once. The office staff may have made some careless mistakes, but that was human error. What the *** did was DISCRIMINATION against a CHILD with a disability. Gross. I have spoken with the office twice about this matter and they have stopped reaching out.

The Doctor failed to inform us that my child would need to be premedicated to have her braces removed which they require being it is like a dental cleaning procedure. Since she is premedicated for dental cleaning. They didnt tell me this prior to scheduling our appointment even though I asked and I called the cardiologist on my own and the cardiologist confirmed that they never call in medication prior to removal of braces. We get to our appointment to find out they wont remove her braces without the cardiologist clearing her because it says she needs to be premedicated for dental cleanings. Some how its my fault because they assumed I would premedicate her when I wasnt told she needed to be premedicated. Now I wasted an hour and a half there and have to reschedule to have my daughters braces off. The doctor should have mentioned it when we scheduled the appointment to have the braces removed not when we were there at the appointment. I did everything I was suppose to do and never was told that the doctor required my child to be premedicated because of the braces removal procedure. Clearly, reading a patients chart isnt the strongest for this practice.

Hi *********,We understand your frustration with this experience and appreciate you sharing your feedback. Patient safety is our top priority, and sometimes this requires additional steps. Due to specific medical considerations for your child, pre-medication was necessary for the braces removal procedure. We apologize if this was not clearly communicated prior to the appointment and for any inconvenience this caused. However, we were unable to proceed without proper clearance from your childs cardiologist. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to completing treatment for your child. Our Office Manager will be contacting you by phone to confirm your upcoming appointment and review any additional questions you may have.Sincerely,Spark Orthodontics

I believe they over charged me an my insurance. And as a result my child is suffering because the braces can be removed, but because I didn't make their balance they refused to remove the braces. The last office vist they adjusted them so she would be in pain. When I asked when can they be removed and the answer was when the rest of the bill is paid.
