Ron from Chimney King came to our home for the 1st time in September to look at our freestanding wood burning stove. He told me on the phone that his estimates were free. At 1st inspection he did a check of stove by shining his cell phone light up the chimney. He said there was excessive creosote built up and it was unsafe to use until measures were taken. One option said was to remove creosote with chains. He said the safer option would be to get a new liner. He estimated this cost at $2,000. We did our due diligence and spoke to 2 other companies. One gave us an extensive report of their inspection completed with drone/cameras in chimney. We called Ron again as we felt the best option was a new liner. Ron and his cousin came back on 10/25/22 to look at the wood burning stove chimney again. He shined his cell phone flash light up the chimney. They did not look at any other chimneys. This has always been the only one in use in our home and the only one in need of remediation. Ron reviewed report from the other company. Ron stated that our terracotta flu liner needed removed and a new stainless steal liner put in. We negotiated work to be done for $3,000. The attached service report was signed. Ron remarked that he “should charge us 99$ for this visit as it’s the 2nd visit to your house.” Ron asked for a $1,000 deposit. We wrote him a check. He said he could get the new liner in “2-3 days.” From this date I had to text Ron 4 times asking him what was going on. Each time he said he was waiting for liner due to shipping delays. He said work would be done by Thanksgiving. Later he said the company had no idea when the part would arrive. I then asked for our money back as we did not want to wait indefinitely with no guarantee of work being completed. The following week we were mailed a $553 check with the breakdown as seen in the attachment. He retroactively charged us $300 for inspections. We want that money back and a receipt of liner cost to verify restocking fee.
