Approximately eight years ago we bought one of the top-of-the-line blue star ranges that cost in excess of $13,000. After a couple of years, we began having a series of problems. The blue star representative needed to come out to our house a variety of times. We have been complaining about an excessive gas smell while using for years. It was determined by a third-party energy expert company that our unit produces over 1000 ppm, which is 775 ppm more than guidelines permit. We recently had the blue star rep out once again, who said after the service that our problem was rectified. After energy expert consultants retest the unit it is lower than the lethal 1000 ppm, but still double the state limits. Customer service is nearly impossible to get a hold of. The service rep, while a nice person has expressed that our particular unit was a new design back when we bought it, and since has been improved because of design flaws. My family and I have been breathing in excessive noxious gas for over eight years and we are supposed to except that there’s a “gonna be a little gas smell.” Every part has been replaced as it has been explained to me, and we still have this seriously dangerous health issue. The utility company has come out twice to confirm that we do not have a gas leak and it is in fact our blue star.Business Response

**********************,
I apologize for the issues you've experienced with your range. While investigating I unfortunately only found 3 interactions with our company. It would be helpful if you would contact us directly and send copies of any service tickets you have regarding repairs on the appliance for us to use as consideration of what can be done that would be helpful. You can respond directly to the email sent to you earlier today.
Thank you,

My wife and I purchased a small bed and breakfast in ************* and wanted to take our kitchen and our inn to the next level. In 2018 we purchased not 1, but 2 identical Blue Star Platinum 30 inch stoves (we believe in redundancy) and we were told this was a professional level stove. Both of them have been problematic and in ways that reflect design, or manufacturing failures that are truly dangerous (and outrageously expensive to fix).1. Six month ago the primary oven burner on one stove stopped functioning. When our repair guy took it out, the entire unit (metal) was cracked - with the crack being approximately 1 cm wide and completely through the unit. Blue star gave us a break, and only charged $750 instead of 1k to replace it.2. Door glass exploded, replacement $500 - no reason.3. Now, the second oven has had the same issue. Both units having the exact same issue - this is not something that should happen to any individual stove - and this is both. I've tried to contact Blue Star, no response at all. 4. Fire issue is the gas valves for the top are now defective. We have clearly had a fire that has burnt the wiring for the controls (they are crispy and burnt black through). We have pictures, which we sent to Blue Star, after speaking to someone and sending these pictures, no response. 5. Explosive issue, since the ignitors were not functioning (but before we realized they were burnt) we had been lighting the burners with a stick lighter, because we needed to cook on the stove top. On one attempt I was leaning over to light the backburner when the gas literally blew the heavy case iron burner tops at least 3 inches up in the air. I lost some hair on my arm from the flash fire, but otherwise was ok.6. Replacement valves leaked on replacement, so our appliance guy capped gas to 2 burners on 4 burner stove.7. My wife is now terrified of these stoves.8. Appliance repair guy is no longer getting response from Blue Star either.Business Response

My partner and I purchased a BlueStar 24inch oven range from *** Appliances - an authorized BlueStar distributor - this year. The oven arrived with a faulty convection fan. They sent a repair man who said there is a crack in the relay which causes the convection fan to trip the breaker when it is turned on. So the repairman ordered a part, and weeks went by waiting for it. When it arrived, the repairman came to fix the issue, just to tell us that the company sent the wrong part. Now we are waiting again for a new part. This oven is over $5,000 - which we were willing to pay for what we were led to believe was a superior quality product. The fact that it has arrived broken is ridiculous. But what is worse, the company has not reached out to us once offering an extended warranty or any reassurance that we don't have a $5,000 lemon sitting in our kitchen. This is on top of a pretty awful process from the distributor *** Appliances, who required a total of four visits to even get the oven delivered and properly installed. Between them and the repair fiascos, we are up to six visits for this oven. Meaning six times my partner or I have had to take off work for a brand new oven. This company owes us a free extended warranty and an apology. I would never buy from them again after this ridiculous ordeal.Business Response

My bluestar has had many quality issues, but at least they were taken care of inside of the 2-year warranty without hassle until now. My issue and why I am copmlinaing is because, even though the warranty expired last year, I believe this is a design or manufacturing issue at its core and I am being forced to pay for the new part, install, and they take no responsibility. I was given a 25% discount off a new door, a part that costs as much as a new low-tier oven, and given no additional warranty on the new part either. Unit is: ***********. While we were cooking, the glass oven door shattered during normal cooking (400F). We were making some veggies and BOOM - huge loud noise with tempered glass all over the floor. It turns out there is some "inner glass" inside the door - with "outer glass" on either side. Hot air travels within that area up through the top of the oven door. These videos actually show it well. **************************** *** ****************************.It's my opinion that the design of that door and heat transfer, and/or material selection is fundamentally at fault, but bluestar will not stand by it at all, saying that it's past the 2 year warranty, so it's not their problem. They also don't care to learn from it at all. I have argued for 2 weeks about it. The new oven door has a 20+ day lead time, and the oven can't be used until then. Finally, icing on the cake... the new door carries NO warranty so if it happens again they said I have to buy new one again, or be stuck without an oven.I'm paying $478.79 for the parts+shipping, and $166.57 for installation = ~$650 all in, part ordered 11/28 and receipt is attached. A satisfactory resolution is for the part to be covered, and warrantied in case it fails again by exploding glass.Initial Complaint

I contacted Bluestar about the writing in the knobs washing off when using **** dish soap. As well as the oven knob not working. The insert pushes in making the knob not turn. The thermostat was replaced because of this issues costing in the mid 200’s. It’s now doing the same thing. They have admitted this is an issue, but we are supposed to pay to replace all of the items.
