On October 10, I hired Mr. ******* to renovate a small bathroom after being impressed by his previous window installation work at my home. The bathroom project included expanding the shower, adding a skylight and steam shower, and updating the tiles, sink, and toilet, with a verbal agreement of $11,000 for the entire ******** commenced around October 15; demolition began after paying a $5,000 deposit. Mr. ******* suggested a 0% interest loan through ************** for remaining balance. I was approved for the loan, I never received a copy of the contract. After loan approval, he informed me that the skylight and steam shower were not feasible due to structural issues.. I reluctantly accepted. They worked inconsistently, showing up for one day at a time and then disappearing for weeks. Delays were often attributed to material orders and tile travels. When I questioned why he needed to travel far for tiles, he mentioned that ********** did not stock subway tiles. I felt intimidated, shocked, and discouraged, but having already paid him $5,000, I felt trapped in our verbal agreement, hoping he would be honest.Four months have passed, and all I have to show for it is a shower pan, new drywall, and a light fixture I did not approve. Additionally, I spent $2,000 to repair the floor that was damaged during demolition. I had to hire a heating and cooling company since he said he could not fix it and insisted it was broken before they removed the wall. After four months, only about one-third of the work has been completed. Frustrated, I sought another contractor to finish the project. I contacted ************** on Feb 10th to inquire if I could use this loan to pay a different contractor. To my surprise, I was told that Mr ******* sent the bank an invoice for completed work in November and received full payment of the loan for $6,694. To this date, Feb 11, 2025, Mr ******* has been paid $11,694, and at this date I have a bathroom no tiles, no floor, toilet, or sink.
