I have called multiple times about this issue. I today 10/24/2023 received a call from a collection agency. A couple of months ago my debit card was compromised and I had to wait for a new card in order to make a scheduled payment. I called and left a message notiftying them of my situation. Once I got the card I tried to update it online but it would not let me set this as the primary form of payment. When the scheduled payment was due obviously they attempted to get payment from my old debit card. I called again leaving a detailed message. No one ever called me back so when I called a third time I went through the operator and asked to speak with a supervisor. My new debit card was then selected as primary. My past due was not added to my current balance and sent to collections. I told the supervisor that I did not have a job. I was not receiving unemployment and that payments would have to wait to be resumed until November once I became employed. I am very angry that they did not add this amount to my current payment plan. i am also very frustrated that billing never answers their phone. Nor do they return phone calls. I went weeks before I had one and only one phone call from the billing department. I want them to cancel the collection. Add it to me current amount and i have a new card to add to the payment plan but their website will not allow me to do this. So, someone from the billinig department must do this!

1/5- received estimate of 1434.90 for endoscopy and told them “ok”
1/6-was contacted and offered discount if I paid for procedure prior so paid 1219.66 assuming that would be the total after insurance.
      1/10- had procedure.
Received bill after the procedure for an additional ~2600.00! Called and argued with billing and they said that everything was not included with that estimate…understandable. The estimate clearly stated that anesthesiologist fee, etc may not be included.
My issue is: You do not give someone an estimate of a procedure that does not include estimates of things or persons which are ?? needed for the standard procedure. I can understand if something “comes up” that is out of the ordinary that would be additional cost. My second issue is the hospital contacted me to pay for the procedure in advance to “give me a discount” and gave me the total of 1219.66. Absolutely no one would assume that the actual total owed would be over 3x that amount!!!!
I feel as though they trick people into getting procedures and prepaying (not implying the procedures or surgeries aren’t necessary) with low estimates knowing full well the average person would never assume the “additional fees not included” would drive the estimate up 3x!!!
It gets worse. After I paid the 1219.66 and get shocked by the additional amount owed of ~2600.00, I started making payments of over 200.00 per month…and paid June and July and was getting ready to pay the same in August when I reviewed a text on 8/28 from a collection agency that my account had been handed over to them. I called Penn highlands billing and they didn’t know why it had been handed over when I had been making routine payments. They stated they would figure it out and call me back. 8/30 I received a letter from collection agency. 9/1 I called billing again and left a message cause no one returned call. This whole situation about “estimates” and slamming you with a bill substantially more happens all the time

I received a statement for services rendered from my daughters pediatrician group from Penn Highlands business office around January 25, 2023 for services on 2-21-22 in the amount of 611.00. I was concerned when I received this bill because my daughter has had CHIP Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance for over 5 years and I have never been sent a bill of such a large amount. I have a $5 office visit copay, but her insurance picks up the rest for office visits. I stopped over to Penn Highlands Business office in DuBois, Pennsylvania on 1-30-23 and spoke to their front desk person who took my information and would pass it on since she did not handle insurance claims. I then received an explanation of benefits from her insurance saying that the claim was denied because the PCP could no be identified. So basically, the business office resubmitted for payment and was denied by my daughter's insurance carrier. I then called Chip Blue/Cross Blue Shield on 2/13 and they said that her PCP was not in network and that was why it was denied and it was only submitted twice on 5/19/22 and then again on 1/30/23 when I stopped by the office to complain. Her insurance said they would resubmit for possible payment, but most likely it would be denied because of how long time has passed. The insurance representative called and said no payment could be paid because that time period was already closed out. I called Penn Highlands business office again on 2/14 and they said they would file a claim and I would hear within a week. No word, so I called on 3-7 and was told that basically that this is what is owed and insurance denied coverage which I was already aware of this. I am upset because someone dropped the ball and at no point was I ever notified that her PCP was not in network and that her insurance was denying services. Maybe I could of called her insurance last year and may be could of figured something out. I didn't know any of this was going on until I received a bill for $611 01/23.
