I had a new fuel pump installed in June 2022 and within 30 minutes of picking my bike up from Scotts my bike lit on fire in traffic making me jump off suffering burns and foot injury. Scotts came to pick the bike up from the side of the road shortly after since it just left their shop while I was with the police and fire department. The fire was cause by fuel in which we think the pump hoses may have came off. Scotts apologized on the phone and came and picked up the bike on the side of the road. The bike has been at their shop since and all that is left is a frame. Scotts charged me over 700$ that day and also just recently put thousands of dollars of parts on this bike they were helping me build and charged me over $1,500 the previous trip months before to install $2,000 bike parts. This was a 2016 fz 07 with a lot of brand new parts installed. Scotts kept giving me the run around saying their insurance company was contacted and needed to look at the issue before they could make the claim to compensate for the bike, parts, and all the labor totaling over $13,000. Scotts has stopped answering all my calls and voicemails. They do not contact back and still have the bike in their shop. I would like resolution and the compensation for the bike they put the fuel pump in and came to pick up under their responsibility.

    Business Response

    Date: 03/20/2023

    Response:
On July 11, 2022, *** ****** contacted our service department and explained that his motorcycle caught on fire while riding. We offered to come pick the motorcycle up and bring it to our shop as a courtesy, in lieu of him calling for a tow. Our service department contacted *** ****** the following day to follow up. Our service department stated that we needed him to contact his insurance company to come take a look at his motorcycle to start the insurance process. Our insurance company was never involved, nor did our dealership state we would be contacting them. Our service department has made many attempts to explain to *** ****** that we need his insurance company to contact us, or come in to the dealership to evaluate his motorcycle. We have a voicemail left by *** ****** using profanity, wondering what is going on with his motorcycle. We have email correspondence from *** ****** seemingly threatening our dealership. As stated, our service department has made many attempts to explain to *** ****** that we need his insurance company to contact us or come in to the dealership to evaluate his motorcycle. That is the first step in the process. We have contacted *** ****** via phone and email, and the response we receive from *** ****** is that he doesn’t know what we are doing and owe him for his motorcycle and parts. We even reached out to the police department in October to see if there was a report with any information that pertained to our dealership. Our request for information was denied because of our noninvolvement in the report. We cannot stress this enough; we have told *** ****** many times that we need his insurance to contact us. Above that, there is nothing we can do for him, until this first step is taken. Until *** ******’s motorcycle is evaluated by his insurance company, we do not know the cause of the fire. In the meantime, *** ******’s motorcycle has been sitting in our warehouse since July of last year. Storage fees begin accumulating four days after a vehicle comes into our dealership for an insurance claim, at $35 per day (rate that was in effect at time of entry). The storage fees accumulated on *** ******’s motorcycle are $8435.00 as of 3/14/2023. To proceed, we need *** ******’s insurance company to contact us.

I have also attached two documents pertaining to this claim. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Thank you,

    Dana S*******
