Master Bathroom Renovation beginning February 2023 originally quoted approximately $25k ended up paying an additional $15k for extras. Within months the grout in shower began to crumble and come free while showering. Contractor regrouted with different color and it continued to happen. He then regrouted again with a different type of silicone grout but only in the parts that broke free rather than doing entire floor so now there are 3 different grout types and to this day it is continuing to break free. He has not given us the correct color to attempt to fix ourselves and has not made time to fix remaining floor. Main floor bathroom renovation costing approximately $8k occurring from April to August 2023 in addition to kitchen renovation. The toilet was was never shimmed and levels and the ****** was never replaced thus causing sewage seeping for approximately 3.5 months into basement drop ceiling. We needed to contact a plumber and needed to grind out tile, replace ******, replace wax ring, and level toilet with shims. We also needed to replace insulation and ceiling tiles in basement as well as deep clean due to contamination. Unsure if there is long lasting water damage. Kitchen renovation occurring from April 2023 to August 2023 costing approximately $150k after being quoted $129************** in kitchen is detaching from tiles and large chunks are missing. Original grout placed was not the correct color and didnt seem to cure correctly but contractor then painted over grout with correct color however the quality of grout is lacking. Tiles are uneven. Deck was supposed to be equivalent to our previous deck size and it is clearly smaller leaving a large gap between deck and safety fence for our pool causing safety concern for our children. We have asked the contractor to fix these issues and he states that he is busy with other jobs.

    Business Response

    Date: 01/10/2024

In reply to the complaint filed on my Buisness Ateam construction. The master bathroom turned into more work then planned I should have written up a change order before I proceeded w anymore of the master bath project. The grout in the shower should have possibly been an epoxy grout being the tiny joints given w the tile used on shower pan. For the downstairs bath toilet issue w installed the toilet and made sure there was zero leaks or anything when discharged. The deck was a little short of the existing fence and was open to installing a small piece of existing fence type or anything to make it blend and be finished closing off space. At no point was I against helping or figuring ways on rectifying any issues. It was my fault for not sending the grout color. I am open to making things right so the homeowner is happy. I have never in 13 years had a complaint or a negative experience whatsoever w a homeowner. We took on a lot of extra work I had no problem doing on the fly for the homeowner and realized at the end I was way over the original budget discussed for the new deck.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the response. If no reason is received your complaint will be closed as Answered]

     Complaint: 20950140

I am rejecting this response because:

While the contractor acknowledges some of the complaints, there has been no action and no plan to fix these issues. There hasnt been an issue with him hearing our concerns and acknowledging them, the issues have been months on months of no action to resolve the issues.

What is the plan to fix the master bathroom floor if it possibly should have been epoxy grout? What is the correct color?

Did you check the basement ceiling underneath main floor bathroom to see if there was any spill over occurring? The toilet always rocked after installation and referring back to my original complaint, there were no shims installed to stabilize.

The deck is approximately one foot short (possibly a few more inches) from meeting the enclosure fence for the pool. Our toddler and dogs have gone through that space and entered pool area multiple times now which is not safe. Contractor had offered to fill in gap with a fence, however it was not done and it has been months since the project was complete.

In response to original complaint the contractor has failed to acknowledge that the kitchen floor grout is missing in some areas, cracked in others and chunks missing. What is the solution to this?

In regards to doing extra work on the fly, all work was discussed weeks prior (text messages available) and was agreed upon due to granite backsplash being installed rather than tile work.

We want the contractor to come up with a plan to fix these issues that have occurred less than a year after his work was done on our home, most occurring within months or weeks. As stated above, he has said he would fix things but it was never done and he had told me once before he was busy on other jobs.
