On May 5, 2024, I purchased a gym membership from Anytime Fitness located in ********, **. The initial purchase amount was $1 down and $20.99, for a total monthly cost of $41.98 for the gym membership; I was charged bi-monthly in amounts of $20.99. I was fine with the membership until July 4, 2024 when they charged me $40.49. and then another $20.99 on July 30, 2024. I tried calling the gym about this charge, but didn't get a response; I left another message saying I wish to cancel my membership due to the overcharge, but never heard anything. I never received a monthly invoice for the transactions, but I did pay them as it was taken directly from my credit union account; I do have statements from my credit union. In total, including the overcharge, I paid the gym a total of $146.44. Then on November 26, 2024, I received a letter from a collections agency, ****************************, saying I owe the gym a total of $548.81 and 30 days to pay it. I did not receive an invoice and the total is far off from what I would assume to owe. A 1 year membership, including the $1 sign on fee, should come out to $504.76. I called the gym and got a robo-caller line and that told me I owe only $171.93. and that my account was on suspension. I am not sure what to do, but once again have never received any type of notice or billing statement ever from them, electronic or paper, until this collections notice which I can't even call to find out what I owe $548.81 for. That's why I am filing a complaint to you. I want a cancellation of my membership without any penalties due to the overcharge, a refund for the overcharge, a reversal of the collections notice, and for them to not contact me. Thank-you. Attached is my credit union statements with the charges highlighted in red and the collection agency notice I received.
