We have reviewed the complaint by ******************, along with the notes to her file and the  recording of her phone conversations with our staff.  ****************** is a member in good standing at Penn East FCU.  Over the time of being a member, she opted-in to two overdraft features on her accounts - Courtesy Pay and the sweep feature from her savings to checking account.  Both of these features are designed to cover debits to the account in the event of insufficient funds.  ****************** did have insufficient funds on the day in question and both of these features kicked into action to cover the overdraft.  The sweep feature has a $4 charge associated with it, which is fully disclosed up front.  She was charged the $4, but no other charges were assessed to her account regarding this transaction sin question.  At the time in question, staff had phone conversations with her explaining what happened, and that the overdraft features came into play.  ****************** asked at that time to have these features removed from her account.  On a recorded line, we explained the features one more time and verified that she still wanted to remove them, noting that she wants her debit card declined if there was not enough money in the account. We have since removed the features from her account nd refunded her the $4 that was rightfully charged, as a courtesy to her.

Currently applied to be a member of penn east in September 2023 and open a online account with them, but it explained I had to be a either living or working in listed counties to be able to be approved. I currently live in pike but work in Wayne county **, which is one of the county they listed. A rep name ***** ************ call me from penn east left a voicemail to call her back. I called ***** back and she wanted to verify what made me eligible to be a member, I specifically told her I have a check showing that I work out of Bethany pa and honsdale pa and it also has my company name on the check she said “that’s fine”. ***** then said when can you head over to a local branch to give them a copy of the check to finish opening my account? I said anywhere between Thursday the 14th and Tuesday the 19th she said great Ill let the girls know. I then arrived at penn east **********************in Scranton pa I was seen by ***********************, who was polite and nice.I sent her a email of the check she approved my membership but then hesitated and wanted to talk with her compliance officer for the credit Union. the officer told her the check is not valid to open my account because its not a big cooperation like a ******* of that sort smh. I was shocked he then asked her where was my business open up in I said pike county pa. I get the check in my business name but I work all year in Wayne county pa. Which I didn’t think was a problem base of what website said and ***** the representative from east penn explained to me. I’m very disturbed how they handle this situation with false advertising and false information that was given by the representative and compliance officer. They need to be detail about situation like this. I also don’t think the information given to me is accurate. I wasted a trip to get turned down when I was originally was told this was ok documentation. This needs to be addressed immediately.
