    My name is ****** ****** ******, African American male; born September 1, 1951; retired from banking; working for ****** **** n/k/a ***** ******** **** and other institutions; I am retired pastor of *** ****** ** *** ** ****** and currently I serve as Historian; I have to date published two books (see attachments)
    On October 18, 2022 at 9:54 AM I was served by Jeff S*****; a company representative who assisted me in the purchase of a rear truck bed off of a 2006 Ford F 150. I was escorted to the yard; where I viewed a blue bed; complete with black liner and tailgate. I assumed; I was purchasing the completed item which was shown to me. (please review attachments & the black liner was not removed from the top rim of the bed and the rear of the tailgate which provides evidence of the center bed liner removal,
    I completed the purchase and paid in cash Seven Hundred fifteen Dollars and fifty cents. ($715.50) with instructions for delivery. Prior to payment; I asked for a discount and was flatly denied; the sales rep would not consider any discount. (See attachment }

    On November 6, 2022; I received delivery of the bed; to my surprise; the tail gate had been removed along with the black vinyl liner; I immediately called and was told this was there routine business practice; to strip the unit and only sale the base; and the materials are disposed of. I was told; if I wanted to secure the tailgate; it would be an additional two hundred fifty dollars; this conversation was with another associate; who after some discussion agreed to sell the unit for one hundred and twenty five ($125.00) (see attachment }
    In addition; it appears the side under support beams for the bed were cut (see attachment ) I cannot figure out why this damage was done; it was not necessary for the removal of the bed; I believe it was an malicious act.

    I believe; I had the right to purchase the item as displayed; and the company failed to post any disclaimed advising any other policy.

    I allege the company participated in a Bait And Switch action and from the way I was treated by the salesman; was motivated in part due to my race; I was denied the companies courtesy afforded to my white friends who routinely do business with Feezle Auto Wrecking.

    I am asking for a promise this practice will cease and I believe; I am due some financial
    consideration for said offense.

    Business Response

    Date: 03/14/2023

    The customer came in to purchase a 2006 F150 truck bed. We told him $675.00 that was for bed only not including tail gate or bed liner. When you purchase a truck bed these items are not included tail lights, tail gate and bed liners. If you purchase a truck bed from a dealer or any other salvage yard, these items are not included either unless purchased at additional cost.

    We did discount the tail gate from $ 250.00 to $ 125.00. Unfortunately, we are unable to give those parts away for free. We feel discounting the tail gate was a fair business practice on our part.

    We have been in business since 1979 and we take pride in our business practices and customer service. We have thousands of repeat customers of all races and we are remorseful in the fact that the customer was unhappy with his purchase. Although the customer did accept the bed when we delivered at no additional cost.

    We have attached local pricing of the bed and tail gate to show the prices on both was very very reasonable.

    Hoping that you find this in our favor providing the documents and customer accepted delivery and mailed us a $ 15.00 tip for three of our coworkers.

    Sincerely,

    Jeff F*****

    Customer Answer

    Better Business Bureau:

    I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

    Case # ******** - Response to Statement by Feezle 1.At the time of purchase no mention was made nor any discussion regarding anything being removed from the truck bed; I left with the impression; I was purchasing What I viewed in the yard. 2. The defendant did not address the fact that; when questioned about the removed tailgate upon delivery at my residence several days later; I was told that they are routinely removed and discarded. ( if this is fact why not just enhance the sale and sale completed? 3.The Delivery person called the office and spoke with his son and asked him to cut me a deal; it was the son who discounted the tailgate and I went the following morning to pay and pick up the gate. He assured me he would attempt to locate and reserve the matching tailgate. 4. The Thank-You card with the enclosed $15.00 was addressed only to the delivery person and his son and the envelope was plainly marked. ( They at least made an effort to make a bad situation - better. I was impressed because they expressed concern) 5. The defendant did not address the damage done to the supporting brackets; there was no reason to cut them with a torch; they were not in anyway attached to the frame, 6. The defendant did not address the fact; due to the severe rust and decay ( there were several rusted through holes) of the under bedding surface; this bed was worth well less than than any generic price list . 7. I spent several hours patching; sanding and rust proofing. That is the value I received. 8. I suggest; the company adopt a policy to post signs; large and plain language to inform the consumer; that what they view may be stripped; for example the price of a bed may not include; tailgate; support brackets or and linings or protective coverings. I am retired and on a fixed income; I believe the sales person violated his code of ethics; given the fact he was told of my dismay; a person of principle would have reached out to discuss a resolution. The sales person was not concerned with quality service; he was only concerned about reaching as deep in my pockets as possible. Signed ****** ****** ******
    Regards,
