I went here to have my bottom teeth pulled and dentures made for my bottom. And a new denture plate made for my top. While pulling my teeth (I was awake) extra bone did come out with the teeth. I had paid for a temporary plate for the bottom which did not fit and I could not use so that was a waste of 300. After 3 months healing time with no bottom teeth my to I used my own old denture plate, they made my new dentures. Through the whole healing process I was told I had plenty of gums on the bottom to get a plate to set to and stay in. The day I went and got my new dentures the top fit ok. I do have to use fixodent just to secure but it's not bad. The bottoms are awful. The day they have me the new denture he said he knew they would never stay and would have to be glued and that I would have to get snap in dentures if I wanted ones to stay in. I paid 1735.00 just for that bottom plate. If they would have told me it wouldn't fit I would have used that money and went with a snap in from the beginning. But now he was pushing for me to spend more and go with a snap in also. So now I have a denture I glue in for looks and take out at every meal to eat because it won't stay on through a meal. I can't eat meats. I can't bite into anything . I'm depressed and just wanty.bad teeth back I had. At least I could bite into a burger. And now I can't afford to go pay for snap in becausey.insirance already capped out for the year paying for these plus the 2000.00 cash I had to pay them out of pocket. For dentures I goop with glue just for looks. I feel if he knew up front when they fitted me they wouldn't stay in they should have told me at that time and I could have chosen to go with a snap in and not had to pay for 2 sets of dentures. When I said that on the day he gave me the dentures his only reply was there is no guarantee on denture fit. I feel you should at least be honest with your patients. Not wanting them to pay twice when you knew from the start.

Having remaining bad teeth removed is an unfortunate but necessary solution to preventing and solving chronic health problems such as persistent oral infections. Healing after dental extractions is never completely predictable because of the condition of the bone and the general health of the patient. Conditions such as a dry mouth from taking medications for other health issues can affect the retention and stability of the dentures.

Dentures are never a complete substitute for teeth in that they are at best only 25% as effective as natural teeth. Consequently, there is a major challenge for wearers to become accustomed to the changes that become necessary to get used to having dentures.

While it is understandable that patients would be concerned about the cost of dental care, we are not miracle workers. We can only work to make the best of an already compromised oral condition.

In this the case of this complaint, the patient was offered free relines as her lower gums and bone naturally change over time.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********* and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]

I could see if the dentures did not fit over time. The dentures did not fit the day they were given to me. I have had upper dentures for 10 years. I know what it is like to have dentures. The problem is that if you knew before fitting me that they would not fit. Which you told me when you gave me the dentures plate then you should have told me that.

    Regards,

It is unfortunate that you are having difficulty adjusting to your lower denture. It is a mistake to compare the upper denture fit to that of the lower. The upper denture is retained by suction just like a suction cup on glass. The lower denture lacks that advantage. It is retained by the amount of bone and tissue that remains after the gums have healed. As stated before, we are willing to reline the lower but even the best made lower denture has limitations to the stability of the denture.
