I would never use Frank Arch again. First, he said that he would save me money by getting a stain to match my baseboards for when he put in my vinyl flooring. I never even thought about it. But that is what he said. When he brought in the quarter round the color was so off that it looked terrible. He even said to me that he thought it did not match. So, he charged me $200 for him go get more quarter round. Then he said that he would not charge for the picking it up. IT IS THE CONTRACTOR’S RESPOINSIBLITY TO MAKE SURE THE STAIN WAS CORRECT. He is a person that cannot get things right, take responsibility, and a cheat. I would never use Frank Arch again. So, at the end I told him I was not happy with paying the $200 for the quarter round, and he said that he told me it would not look right. He never said that. And if that was the case, why did he suggest it? If he did (and he did not) I would have paid the money to the matching quarter round! He is trying to avoid taking responsibility for his unprofessionalism. HE did not take responsibility for his shortfall. Originally, he told me quarter round would be $150. So, he charged $200. Really? He accused me of not buying the Stair nose when HE did not pick it up at Home Depot, which I was paying him for. Take responsibility!

    Business Response

Dear Sir or Madam, I am responding to the complaint by the above person. First, when I looked at this home I told Ms. ***** that her stain on her baseboard was 10 years old and unmatchable with a stock stain. I told her I would go to Sherwin Williams and have then custom mix a stain to match, and the result after staining and urethaning her quarter round she rejected the pieces. I told her I would have to purchase new stain and apply it to new quarter round that she would have to pay $200.00 for. The 2nd batch they attempted was not acceptable to me, so I had them alter the stain further to where it is now, almost an exact match, I've been doing this service for 43 years and this was the closest stain match I've seen. I then restained the wood and clear coated it. Total time to do all that was about 8 hours. When I took it to her house she ok'd the color and I installed it. After I was done she paid the additional $200.00 and expressed her unhappiness with the charge. If anything I should be paid an additional $400.20 for my extra labor and the cost of the 2nd can of stain, which she kept.

Ms. ***** agreed to the $200.00 extra and knew that I wasn't charging for labor and driving time, nor for the 2nd stain. If she didn't want to pay for the new quarter she could have kept the original batch.

    Customer Answer

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Frank is of the misconcepti0on that the customer should pay for his mistakes, which is not true.  Frank needs to take responsibility for failing to get the right color on the quarterrounds the first time.  That is what a professional would do.

    Regards,
