Catalfano Brothers LLC performed shoddy work on my residence, specifically a sliding door that was installed several inches too low which created a trip hazard that failed inspection. After refusing to pay for work that will not pass any inspection, I was threatened by the President that he will be arriving at my home to break into the house and destroy the door. I have never heard of a contractor like this. He would not offer to fix the issues. He then filed a bogus mechanics lien against the property to harass me. There are several bad reviews about this man and this construction company.Business Response

We completed the customer's project on August 7th, 2023. We sent his invoice the first time on August 23rd, 2023. We sent follow up emails and left voice mails for him regarding the invoice and all were ignored. At no time did he call the office or email the office stating he was unhappy with our work. We heard NOTHING from him until October 12th, 2023, after our owner left him a voice mail and email stating that we would remove the door we installed if he did not make payment or call us to discuss the matter. Since then, someone named **** called on his behalf, told us he planned on paying after the house was sold (payment as per signed contract was due within 7 days of completion, in no way contingent on the property being sold), then threatened to shoot our owner in the head. Since then, we have filed a mechanic's lien and will be suing for payment in court. Once they received notice about the lien, they have been writing slanderous reviews on several websites under fake names, and have harassed in in emails. I'm happy to provide the email threads.

Attached is the email correspondence. The customer did not call or email at any time to state he was unhappy with the door install. He simply ignored all invoices and phone calls we made asking for payment.

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because I needed to replace the roof that was allegedly installed in April of 2019 by Catalfano Brothers Roofing. The warranty provided by ******* Catalfano Roofing never mentioned that if a coating was not put on the roof then the roof warranty is void (I provided a copy of the written warranty in my initial complaint). I was never told that either. I contacted Catalfano Roofing within a week of installing the roof because it was already leaking. He sent some one out and they did some patch work and left. My insurance company, ******* ******, thought that the problem was the roof causing the leak into the property, but it was later found to be the plumbing that had a leak. However, the roofer at ******* (working for ******* ******) documented that he roof was in very poor condition and provided pictures to prove it (which were all included in the ******* Report that I attached in my initial complaint). I also included the home inspector report stating the roof was in bad shape. Lastly, I could not sell the property due to the roof condition. I spoke to the roofer on the phone and he said the roof looked over 10 years old. I had to pay to have a new roof properly installed in May of 2023. I repeatedly complained in 2022 and 2023, and ******* Catalfano was extremely rude and condescending and unprofessional. If this is not resolved at this level, I plan on going to the small claims court in Oreland and filing a claim. I will provide all of the written evidence that I have, and I am sure that I will win this case. I had to pay $4800 for a new roof because of ******* Catalfano and his shoddy work and bad attitude. The roof had defective workmanship and ******* Catalfano breached the contract by not honoring the written 10 year warranty that he provided to me. It was not worth the paper that it was written on.Regards,
pposedly done. I contacted ******* Catalfano last year and this year, and he has been very dismissive and rude. He tells me that there is nothing wrong with the roof, and he will not do anything about it. I received a 10 year warranty, and it should be honored. I should not have to pay for a new roof. ******* Catalfano should have to honor the warranty that I was given. I only used his company because I was getting a 10 year warranty. I feel like I was scammed.

The roof was installed in April 2019. I have attached the email threads between myself and *** **** that began in the summer of 2022 regarding her roof.
*** **** stated that her insurance company was requiring her to have her roof replaced. To date, we have never received a report from the insurance company or *** **** that explained a need for a roof replacement.
As you can read in the email chain, *** **** was asked to provide the inspection report where she claimed that the roof was either never installed, or had been done so poorly it required repair or replacement.
I myself went out several times when *** **** reported leaks, and was not given access to the second floor of the building to inspect any problem, and noted that the leak she described was on the first floor directly under a kitchen.
In the summer of 2022, she sent a series of emails telling me that a home inspector, her insurance company, a roofer she knew, and a plumber all told her the roof was leaking, and that the roof appeared to be at least "10 years old" and maybe had never been replaced. She became upset when I told her to wait for the plumber to come and to let me know what he found. I asked her to provide reports from all the people she stated told her the roof was defective and required repair or replacement. She did not send any reports until May 2023, and that was only the home inspection, which does NOT state the flat roof Catalfano installed was defective, only that it showed "alligator cracking" which is common for a torch down roof installed 4 years ago. I also reminded her that when we spoke on the phone and I'd met with her in 2022, that the roof should be silver coated every 3-5 years as maintenance . The coating is not covered under the warranty, as it is the homeowners responsibility to maintain the roof. She told me a plumber had been out to investigate the leak, but would not tell me what he found, and declined my repeated offers to speak to any of the professionals she claimed had evaluated the roof. *** **** feels that her warranty should have covered either repair or replacement, which would be correct if the roof was defective. I was out to look at the roof in both June and July of 2022, and the roof was installed correctly, and showed the normal wear and tear of a modified bitumen roof installed 3 years ago, with no evidence of leaks. I was unable to evaluate further, as I was not given access inside to see where the leak may have been coming in.
I sent her an email on August 3rd, 2022 asking her to send any reports by any of the people she claimed were telling her the roof was either in need of repair or replacement. I did not hear back from her until May 11, 2023, when she stated she was selling the property and demanded I "honor the warranty" by issuing a refund or replacing the roof. She called and emailed the office and was again instructed to provide reports stating the roof had issues that needed to be corrected. The inspection report she provided on May 12, 2023 noted various issues with much of the building. The report on the flat roof we installed mentions review by a roofing professional, and nothing regarding the roof being "at least 10 years old". Some ponding, which is also noted, is to be expected on that type of roof. Also, maintaining proper drainage on the roof is the responsibility of the homeowner, and not warrantable.
While I admit some of my email responses may have seemed "rude" or "dismissive", I was quite offended by *** ****'s accusations that we never installed the roof, and her insistence that I should replace her roof or refund her money. I certainly would have gone back out last year if the plumber she claimed was out had ruled out a plumbing issue on the second floor. I had no issue going back to the property a third time, I felt and still feel that if she'd had all these "professionals" out, she could have provided a report from at least one of them, or even a phone call. Her tenants would not allow access to the second floor the last time I was there, which made it impossible to check for the alleged leak. Quite frankly, given her overall tone and attitude in both emails and over the phone, I was not wasting another trip to her property without any way of accessing the entire building to properly investigate her claims.
I am sorry *** **** is unhappy with the work we did, but the roof was installed properly and her warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, or routine maintenance, which was verbally discussed with both *** ****, and her ex-husband back in 2019, and again with *** **** in 2022, and again in our most recent emails.
