We closed on our home in April 2022 - at the time, almost 5 months behind schedule. At closing, there was a list of unfinished issues / work in the home that we were assured would be completed within a next few weeks. It has now been 16 weeks since closing and Burkentine has not completed the work in its entirety to allow us full use of our home. Burkentine was paid in full for all items at closing. We are still without use of our master bath, have faulty/cracked tiles the shower, the shower door has been propped in our closet, are waiting for a full shower gut/redo, no plumbing fixtures in master bath shower, glass and broken tile all throughout our yard so we cannot walk barefoot for fear of injury, incorrect plumbing at our downstairs dog wash area, a missing back screen door, incorrect door inserts - among other issues. Incomplete work has also been left in less than desirable conditions - we've had a rock from the yard holding tile in place for months now and painters tape on floor tiles that are not grouted.Incomplete and faulty work has been an issue throughout construction. We have photos of our framing crew drinking on the job multiple times and leaving open alcohol containers on site, which was brought to Burkentine's attention at each occurrence, and they allowed them to continue on the job. Our basement flooded multiple times and we had to have the concrete jackhammered out with appropriate drains put in after closing. Our drywall is cracking off the walls. Our second bath leaked down through our downstairs ceiling due to faulty plumbing. Incorrect kitchen cabinets were installed. We have been given nothing but empty promises for completion of the work. We have had to take off work in preparation for their return on scheduled dates and they do not show. While we've held off filing a formal complaint for months, we're at a point where we don't know how else to get our home completed - especially since they have been paid in full for 4 months.

    Business Response

    Date: 11/07/2022

I am responding to the latest notice about the Complaint ID above. Looping in our Assistant Director of Construction, Joel P******** who has been dealing with the ****’s the last few months.

His latest response is below & we can answer any additional questions. We have put more than a good faith effort into this customer.

If you need additional correspondence please let us know.

I believe we have fulfilled our responsibility to address the items identified by ***** within industry standards for warranty work and service. 2 items on her list were not warrantable although we did research possible solutions for each and determined that they would compromise the efficiency of the home (Bed Room Door Issue) and compromise the integrity of (and void any warranty) of the counter top. We have a back ordered screen door that is expected next week at ********. Upon receipt we will schedule a time to install. I expect that will be the week of 11/14.

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response.  If you wish, you may update it before sending it.]

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********. While the home was not built to any acceptable standard, if we are “resolving” this complaint based on an almost-completed punch list approximately 1 year past our original promised move in date and 7 months past our closing date, I can accept that as resolved. There will be future work yet to be completed as the builder has requested that we wait until our one year inspection - drywall work and garage floor cracking work is yet to be addressed.

    Regards,
