I took my year old ******** to dr ***** initially on November 12 for facial swelling. This is not my normal vet however I chose Hershey veterinarian because they do dental and my normal vet does not. Dr ***** refused to examine my dog stating that he had been bitten recently although my dog is not aggressive. He prescribed her meds and sent us home. We visited him a total of 4 times over the course of 2 weeks for her worsening condition and paid at least $700.00 to this vet until he finally told us to take her elsewhere because he could not help us I called my normal vet and explained the situation to him and was seen the following day. My normal vet examined her and did the necessary testing that dr ***** refused to do but still charged us for. My normal vet prescribed her steroids and within a matter of days she was back to normal. Hershey veteran hospital and dr **************** kept us coming back and charged us over $700 when he should have just told us on the first appointment that he could not help us.

    To Whom It May Concern,
On November 12, 2022, ****, a female 1-year-old ********, presented for examination of swelling below the left eye and decreased ability to open her mouth with pain. **** was extremely fractious and tried to bite the veterinarian at presentation. A tentative diagnosis of infection in the upper left maxilla was made. Due to ****'s behavior antibiotics and anti-inflammatories were prescribed for symptomatic therapy. A phone call was received from ****'s owner on 11/13/2022 and owner reported a decrease in facial swelling and pain. On 11/14/2022 **** returned for a recheck. appointment and owner was concerned about the underlying cause of the swelling which had returned. Owner was offered an appointment for anesthesia and skull radiographs. Owner scheduled an appointment for 11/17/2022.
On 11/17/2022 **** was presented for re-evaluation and had returned to normal with ability to open her mouth fully with no pain. Owner elected to hold off on anesthesia and skull radiographs at that time. On 11/21/2022 ****'s owner called and reported that she was doing well, and no swelling was noted. On 11/25/2022 owner presented **** for her left eye bulging from the socket and pain again. Owner was advised to seek a second opinion at the University of Pennsylvania. Advanced imaging of the skull was recommended to find the underlying cause of ****'s issues. On 11/26/2022 we received a phone call from ****'s owner stating that **** had returned to normal, and they elected not to seek a second opinion at the University of ************ due to cost.
We received the BBB complaint and see that ****'s condition has improved on steroids. We are happy for ****'s pain relief. Unfortunately, the underlying cause still has not been addressed. We hope that **** will be evaluated with advanced imaging in the future if the problem returns.

    Sincerely,
    Kevin *. S*********, DVM
