I was initially attracted to GP Harris because they provide digital design renderings before construction which were for: finishing the basement (with a full bath) and adding a countertop to my laundry room, costing me $1800. My initial meetings w/the designer were good but over time I found that the more questions I had the less answers she had. I made several attempts to obtain clarification to my questions and when the answers didn't come I asked again and again which delayed the process.
    Examples:
*Bathroom plumbing - only a sewage ejection pump was provided as an option. Later while speaking to the flooring specialist I learned of a grinder pump and when speaking to a plumber, the Saniflo system, none of which were presented by GP Harris; I wasn't allowed to speak to their plumber telling me "we cannot tie up our trade partners prior to construction."
*Design - you pay for them putting your design into the computer program. The designs were all my own. I was presented with very restricted options; during our meetings I would need to provide justifications for why I wanted to make the changes I wanted to make, which was exhausting.
*Price was vague; during design meetings I would ask if my modifications were yielding savings and the designer wouldn't know.
After all of this and 2days after the designer sent me what I thought would be a final rendering for review, the president of the company, Greg, wrote me a letter telling me they would no longer work with me. I think scheduling a meeting to discuss this would have been more appropriate. The kicker is that they get to keep my $1800.
I think GP Harris is great for folks who don't ask many questions, have remodeled before and are familiar with the process, and/or are fine with GP Harris drawing up the design they think is best and you saying yes to it. If you are hands on, this would not be a good company for your to work with. All in all I learned a lot during this experience.

We have a very clear Design Process. We listen to our client to gain an understanding of their goals and objectives, and then provide options to achieve those goals. After our initial consultation with this client, we provided several floorplan options from which to develop a full scope of work. After a Design Review to determine which floorplan best suited her needs we proceeded to Design the space. Because of budget constraints we were making suggestions and recommendations to help her stay more in line with her target budget. It became a regular occurrence that upon spending time on internet, new ides would be brought forth and we would be asked to redesign and price a multitude of different ideas. Additionally it seemed the each meeting would be followed up with her internet based renovation expertise. Although we have been doing Renovation work for over 20 years, it became increasingly apparent that Ms. Ramirez had not developed any trust in our ability. Unfortunately this is not the way to enter into a contract in which we would be working in her home for several weeks on end. Our hope is that she finds a Professional that she feels good about and that they do a great job.
