On July 29, 2022, I signed a contract with JAM Catering for my daughter's wedding on Sept 15, 2023 at the ********************** and paid a deposit of $7,250 to the company. About 5 weeks later my daughter and her fianc decided to postpone their wedding. On Sept 6, 2022 I sent an email updating the caterer of the cancellation. I then received a refund of $2,000 from, I believe, the ********************** since the cancellation occurred more that a year before the wedding date. I understood that, if the venue rebooked the Sept 15, 2023 date, the remainder of the deposit would be refunded. The venue has been rebooked. I was refunded only $3,250 of the deposit. When I questioned why $2,000 had been withheld, I was told that the contract states that the $2,000 will be withheld due to an administrative fee. I believe the contract language does not address a withholding of $2000 administrative fee when the event is cancelled more that a year before the event & rebooks. Jam wants to make this all about the contract language. I think it is bad business on their part to make this a legal contract issue even though I feel the contract is deficient. Here are my thoughts: 1. Since the event has been rebooked, they are double dipping & incurred no losses 2. They claim the $2,000 pays the administrative costs. I scheduled my appointment to view the venue online, never speaking to anyone, met a representative at the venue for a half hour tour ( she was lovely, by the way) was e-mailed & signed a boiler plate contract. That was the end of my contact with JAM until I sent the e-mail cancelling our plans. 3. The contract language is unclear. 4. I have been told by the VP that filing a complaint with the BBB will not get my money refunded. 5. I feel I have approached this matter with JAM with respect & reason only to get legalese pushback. I think that is surprising for a business in the community. 6. I offer to pay an administrative fee of $250 & request a refund of $ 1,750.

The firm, JAM catering, has agreed to refund to me $1500.  They will not pay that amount to me until there is confirmation from BBB of resolution.

I have copied their account supervisor, Samantha K******, on this e-mail.
