I am writing to address the distressing situation at my home, **************************, which was severely affected by a flood earlier this month. Unfortunately, the basement is still under construction, with the walls cut out about 3-4 feet from the ground. As a consequence of the flooding, the old concrete/brick walls in the basement, previously painted white, have peeled off, revealing the presence of black mold. This mold issue has had a significant impact on my health, leading to breathing issues and a persistent cough that has been difficult to overcome. Balfour Beatty knew about the history of flooding in this home, which not only flooded the basement but also resulted in water spewing from the garage during heavy rain. I have not witnessed any workers attending to the basement for the past week, and possibly even the last 10 days. This lack of progress is deeply concerning, especially considering the visible black mold that requires immediate remediation. Additionally, some of my belongings salvaged from the flood are still in the yard, awaiting relocation back into the basement. However, due to the current state of the basement and the mold issue, it is unsafe to proceed until the situation is appropriately addressed. Since relocating to ********** in 2020, I have endured three flooding incidents, with the most recent one occurring earlier this month. If Balfour Beatty had demonstrated a stronger commitment to the responsibility of providing safe and secure living spaces for service members, rather than prioritizing profit-driven decisions. The limited communication with housing regarding the situation has exacerbated my concerns and added to the stress surrounding the circumstances. Considering the extent of the issues and their impact on my health and personal belongings, I am requesting that no rent be charged until I leave for retirement in the summer of 2024. Relocating my family to another home prior to my summer 2024 departure is not an option.
