12/8/23-Driving from ******, ** to ******, ** I experienced car trouble (vehicle would not accelerate over 60mph). Stopped at closest repair shop- Meineke. They performed a diagnostic and they determined that my turbo needed to be replaced but it would not be completed until 12/9/23 @ a cost of $3,200. I paid half and financed the rest. On 12/9/23 I retrieved my vehicle, drove 2 mi to hwy and heard the car poppulling onto highway, vehicle would not accelerate 40mph, 30mph. I took the next exit to turn around to return to Meineke. Upon driving back on hwy vehicle stalled completely and began smoking. Ignition would not turn. I called Meineke and they provided a number to have vehicle towed back to shop. They stated they were closed for the day and Sunday and would work on it Monday. Manager, ****, stated he would pay for my hotel and food charges for the 2 days. On Monday, 12/11/23, **** called stating my engine was blown and that he could replace it for $5,200. He then stated my car was old and bound to go out any day(2012 Sonata with *****k mi), engine code showed on original diagnostic but there was no way to know it was about to blow. Adamant that he installed turbo correctly but not answering why he would put a turbo on if car was bound to die. However, speaking with other mechanics with codes provided- placing a new turbo on a struggling engine would cause it to blow. **** was condescending, refused reimbursement because it wasnt their fault/turbo still works, refused uninstalling turbo for $2k part return, and called cops on me and demanded I and non-running vehicle be removed from property immediately. (I notified cops prior to arrival and was on the phone with them when he called 911 and made a false claim that I threatened him and his family. I had to pay to tow from store to local yard, rent a vehicle to continue my trip, and be without transportation once I arrived. I have a full audio recording of events on 12/11/23 if necessary.

On Saturday December 8, 2023 ********************* was Driving from ******, ** to ******, **. ********************* had experienced car trouble (vehicle would not accelerate over 60mph). She stopped at the closest repair shop, Our Meineke. We performed a diagnostic with the check engine light that was on, we determined that the turbo on her vehicle 2012 Hyundia Sonata (156K) needed to be replaced.   We found the data to prove the Turbo was bad, also upon removal we found the turbo was cracked creating a vacuumed leak in the turbo system. Customer stayed the night in the area waiting for her car to be completed. On 12/9/23 ******************* retrieved her vehicle, drove 2 mi to the hwy and heard the car pop she stated she pulled onto the highway, and vehicle would not accelerate 40 mph after hearing the "popping sound". ******** stated she took the next exit to turn around to return to Meineke. Upon driving back on the hwy,  ***** states her vehicle stalled completely and began smoking. She stated the ignition would not work as she would push the button and would get nothing.  Customer called ********************** and we provided a number to have vehicle towed back to shop. We stated we were closing for the day soon and we were closed on Sunday.  We told ***** we would take a look at the vehicle first thing Monday. We advised the customer IF THE VEHICLE REPAIR FAILED THAT SHE HAD JUST PAID FOR (TURBO), We would happily pay for the warranty repair to have the Turbo replaced and her hotel stay.  On Monday, 12/11/23, We called Aleia to advise her the engine on her 2012 Sonata with *****k mi. had blown, and we could replace it for her for a cost.  Also we advised ***** we would not be paying for the hotel room, since this was not related to the new turbo, and was a new concern. The Vehicle Turbo we replaced was 100 % GOOD. The vehicle had new codes indicating the engine was Seized. The turbo code was/ is no longer there, the portion ********************* paid for was 100% functioning as it was intended to.

    Hello,

The complaint is based in their course of action from the original diagnostic. I have spoken with several mechanics who stated that putting a new turbo on after seeing those diagnostics was just a "money grab". My vehicle was running, albeit inefficiently, before the "repair" and non-running post-"repair". I even asked for the turbo to be uninstalled and refunded and they refused. There was negligence in diagnosis or repair work. I'm certain that they were aware that vehicle was not "fixed' as the manager confirmed that they did not test drive the vehicle post-repair. They only used the diagnostic machine to ensure that one code wasn't showing. Is that proper protocol for an auto repair of a vehicle diagnosed as 'not reaching over 40 mph"?

I brought in my vehicle for service on 11/14/23. They determined that it needed new brakes in the rear (pads, rotors, calipers, etc.) I picked up the vehicle after service was completed that same day. The next morning after some driving the brakes had noticeable performance issues as well as leaking brake fluid in the rear. This poor service put all drivers of the vehicle in danger. We had to drive about 30 minutes back to the shop hoping that the brakes wouldn’t fail along the way. They said that the brake lines were not connected properly. They supposedly fixed it this time but I’m afraid to trust their work. They didn’t offer any compensation or refund for their mistake and haven’t answered my call since then.

    In response to Complaint # ********; *******************

Customer came in for fear his brakes were grinding. We found the customers brakes were metal to metal and his calipers had failed due to brake lines collapsing. After completing customer called in next morning stated he felt his brakes did not feel right he thought they were still leaking. As a responsible business, we asked to have ******************* come back to see what was going, biased off of the new concern. We found that during the damage to the caliper a substantial amount of brake fluid soaked the area of the wheel/ brake caliper.  We offered customer a "clean and degrease" which was declined during the service. During the check we found the bolt to hold the brake line hose slightly loose. This does not affect the function of the braking system. We tightened the bolt, cleaned the residual the best we could without the "clean and degrease".  We found nothing wrong with the workmanship. We asked the customer to came to us out of an abundance of caution biased on what he/she/ they tell us. We implore safety and are committed to the safety of our customers and community.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the response. If no reason is received your complaint will be closed as Answered]

     Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:
There was no offer to clean and degrease. There were many services suggested and I accepted all that were related to brakes. If the issue didn’t affect the function of the brakes we wouldn’t have wasted the time driving back to fix them again. There was a noticeable decrease in brake functionality while driving back. There was brake fluid visibly dripping. There would be no complaint if the brakes were fine.

    Regards,
