I am a veteran who entered into a contract for services with a Private Veterans Affairs Compensation and Pension Examiner to work on a claim for service connected disabilities. - I entered into a signed contract on 12/06/2023 for a standard service costing a fee of $2000, and a deposit of $500 was paid to reserve my position in the examiners que. On December 12th, we successfully renegotiated the contract to expedite my claim with a new total of $2600 and a estimated completion time between January 10th and 20th, 2024. - On December 12th, I paid the remaining $2100. examiner said they would work on my case in the upcoming weekend, Dec. 16 -17. - The examiner did not complete my claim. - Following the holidays I contact the examiner who indicated they took time off, and that they would work on my case in the upcoming weekend, January 6th and 7th. - Sunday January 7th, 2024 I received an email stating the examiner had a family emergency and that there would be a 2-3 week delay and offered to refund me if I chose to no longer use the service. - Examiner said it would include deposit - At that time I accepted her offer for a full refund, including deposit. - I then requested the refund be made at the time the service was canceled - She indicated she would not be at work for 2 weeks, and that I would not receive my refund until then. The following day January 8th, 2023 the examiner texted me at 8:30 AM stating she was in the office and would complete my claim the same day. At this point the examiner had already acted in bad faith on multiple occasions and I was skeptical to re-agree to her working on my claim. I advised her that I still wished to receive a refund. 2.5 hours after texting me, she sent me an email, stating the following she would not return the deposit, only the other $2100.
