I received a letter from Eber & Wein concerning the poetry contest I entered. I have decided to work with Eber and Wein in allowing them to publish my poem for two reasons. First and most important reason is they have completely disclosed how their publishing enterprise functions. Secondly it is Veteran owned and Operated; Veteran entrepreneurs are whom I prefer to patronize.

I have been having a poem published each year since 2010 and like the book a lot. I am retired from the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County where I worked as a library page. I like the poems I write and seeing them in a book. I send the books containing my poem to the Poetry Collection at SUNY at Buffalo. The poetry collection curator likes my poem and the books I have relocated from Rochester to Batavia to be near my children. There really is no understanding of poetry here. I mostly journal and read in my apartment and publication of my poem is therapeutic for me. I hope to continue to send Eber and Wein my poems in future years. I will be 77 this year and wonder how many more poems I will be able to send.

I would like to thank Eber & Wein for giving me the opportunity to enter their contest in 2009. I wrote about President Obama. That was agreat year for Blacks in America.

We make our books available on Amazon.com for the convenience of family members and friends of the contributors who may want to purchase a copy. We actually sell very few copies online, as the only people who know about our anthologies are the people who are published in them. These people are informed when their book becomes available online.
We are a publishing service provider and 95% of our profit comes from the individual projects we publish for writers who wish to publish a book of their own work.
Anthology book sales offset the cost of running the contest and creating/printing the books. Poets who submit their poetry and take advantage of having it published at no cost do so voluntarily. Every bit of our correspondence explains the necessity of anthology book sales. Our contest is free, and we give qualified poets the opportunity to have their poem published with no purchase required. Because of this there simply is not enough revenue to distribute free copies; if we did this, our business would cease to exist. As our letters state, we must charge for the books, as they are quite labor-intensive and a lot of time and effort goes into producing them. Most people cannot afford to work for free, and we are no different. The purpose of the anthologies is to recognize the work of amateur poets and help them get their work "out there" in front of a larger audience. The contest and anthologies are something we do on the side for fun. Our poets enjoy participating in the contest and having their work printed in a professionally-bound publication, and our editorial staff has fun judging the contests and compiling the anthologies. At the end of the day, however, the anthology is a break-even product. Each volume consists of 300-350 poems and requires a tremendous amount of work. While our editors enjoy creating them, they are not volunteers and they do not work for free. They are full-time salaried employees. We are a business like any other and cannot afford to offer free products.
