We signed a contract for a renovation project which was to be completed "no later than 9/18/23" per the original contract agreement. We did add a few items to the original, and paid the additional cost of these items. We received a receipt for the add-ons, but no formal quote for the additional time. We were verbally told the small additions would likely add "a few days" to the project. The project involvs turning 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom(all adjacent) into a master suite with walk in shower. As of now - 1/10/24 - the project is nowhere near complete, and some of the aspects that have been completed are not of the quality we were led to expect. In the first 2 weeks, our contractor worked a few days, 3 or 4 hours or so each day. From then on his attendance became increasingly poor and erratic. Over the course of the 4 months, there have been several days that he was scheduled to come work on the project he did not, either texting an excuse or simply not communicating at all. More and more often he does not contact us at all, unless we contacted him first. He has "promised" on multiple occasions to a. arrive to work on the project and b. complete the project, only to not show up at all.*We did verify that this contractor is registered with the Attorney General's office. ***#********, expiring 8/14/24.**Today I was informed by the AG office that his insurance has lapsed as of 8/10/23 Additional info: -In addition to the frustration of not having the project completed, it involves 1 of the 2 bathrooms - so we have been down to a single bathroom for nearly 4 months. -I had a friend staying with us, and she needed to vacate the spare bedroom during the renovation process. She has had to find other living arrangements altogether, as she was displaced for so long.-This project was scheduled in September so it would be finished before my daughter went back to work after maternity leave. I babysit my 2 grandchildren (4 months old, and 2 years old) in my home - this project and having my home in disarray has negatively impacted the children as well. - The contractor has left tools, equipment, supplies, buckets of murky water....multiple unsafe things in my home and on my porch that create a hazard to my family, specifically my grandchildren.
